Haven't had a good introduction to him so far. I saw Boogie Nights when I was too young to get it and then I started watching The Master and thought "well this is very unpleasant and depressing, I'm not watching it any longer."
There's his new film, which is why he's getting a retrospective at my favorite cinematheque, except I'm not sure I'll have the time to go this month. Maybe I need to see Inherent Vice, I quite like Pynchon. Or maybe the new one, because it's also based on Pynchon and reportedly pokes fun at the idiocy of left wing extremists. |
Low-budget B&W horror flick about a cult in Los Angeles that worships a Devil God called "Gamba" and a hapless man who gets brought into the cult by a mysterious woman. A bit of the supernatural, a bit of voodoo, a bit of sex, a bit of betrayal. Mildly amusing movie but it could've been better in the right hands. As is often the case with these types of flicks, the poster is the best thing about it. |
B&W crime film about a bank heist which leads to the money from the heist going undiscovered after the gang members involved die in a car wreck. An insurance investigator, the police, and some other members of the gang go looking for clues to the location of the loot. |
