The awkward guy is played Paul Dano who's character has the personality of a piece of wood. But he can't be blamed I'm sure I'd be all wood if I was next to Zooey Deschanel, ZING! However my favorite character was quirky girls father played by John Goodman. A big intimidating guy with back problems and has the funniest lines in the film, he really steals the film. But overall if your into indie romance films you'll probably enjoy this one, but it's no Garden State,
best review ever! zooey deschanel has carved out this kind of indie fox reputation, but the first time i saw her was RUINING the character of Trillian in the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy (admittedly not that there was much of a film to ruin). And she's a bit crap generally you have to admit. I saw her interviewing Brian Wilson (?!) on myspace and talking about her music career, that's all we need

Also, LEGS

ps who the hell is Paul Dano and who do these people think they are with their weird names? 'Zooey'?!

This is Paul Dano, he was in Little Miss Sunshine as that little girl's color blind older brother, and he was in There Will Be Blood as Eli. That's all I really no him from.

She was named after Zooey Glass, the male protagonist of J. D. Salinger's 1961 novella Franny and Zooey.
Yeh she pretty much has found a niche playing the same quirky girl in almost every movie she's been in. But I think the more interesting thing is she's never been in a good movie. This film Gigantic is the best thing Ive seen her in and the movie wasn't that great. The only good movie she has been in was Almost Famous and her part wasn't that big. She needs to fire her agent.

Yeah like sweet_nothing said she was named after one of the main protagonists in 'Franny and Zooey' but in interviews and such she always pronounces her name as just 'Zoe.'
