The fourth movie I watch by Amenábar, that guy never ceases to impress me. Great Spanish thriller.

I finished re-watching this an hour or two ago. Fantastic film - always one of the first I think of when someone asks me what my favourite movies are. True, it's not entirely historically accurate, and it does stretch the truth in places, but the story, performances, set designs, direction and so on are easily strong enough for you to ignore that.

Nothing short of astonishing. The true story of Bobby Sands who was a political prisoner in 1981 who led a hunger strike protest. Played brilliantly by Michael Fassbender, it's a performance that overshadows Christian Bale's acclaimed turn in The Machinist regarding massive weight loss.

It is directed by the 1999 Turner winner Steve McQueen and is definitely arty but filled with some truly sublime shots and set pieces, most notably a near static 17 minute (yes you read that correctly) two hander that is one of the best pieces of both acting and cinema that I have ever seen and Heat's infamous De Niro/Pacino face off pales in comparison. The scene was reportedly practiced up to 15 times a day with the actors sharing a flat and running through the lines to get it pitch perfect- it worked brilliantly.

Certainly not an easy watch and the first half hour is laborious but it's a film that has made me virtually empty inside but also reinforces the fact that some truly original and intelligent films are still being made. Stunningly brilliant although not for all tastes.

^ I've been wanting to see that film since it came out.... unfortunately I've never really had the chance. But you just convinced me to go make sure I see it.

Watched Transsiberian last night. It was good at times, and overall not a bad story, but it wasn't great. It could perhaps have been shorter, Woody Harrelson's character was kind of annoying at times, I don't know. I think it's just that things moved a bit slower than necessary without creating enough tension.

District 9- good a little disconnected but still good
The Hangover- OK not as great as everyone said but I liked it
The Informant!- Pretty interesting
(500) Days of Summer- Like an 80s John Cusack movie, so pretty ****ing awesome
Slumdog Millionaire-Saw some 35 mm catch on fire, badass
Zombieland: who doesn't love a good zombie movie
Inglorious Bastards: I don't see the big deal is. It wasn't horrible it wasn't amazing. I was going in thinking my love for Tarantino would be ripped to pieces and I would walk out dissapointed but I very much enjoyed it.
Julie and Julia: Not my typical type of movie but I did like it.
Up: eh, it was ok
A Serious Man: I'm sucker for movies/books that focus more on themes and character building than plot; most people hate that sort of thing.
Bronson: Kicking ass taking names and being crazy.
All Saints Day: **** this movie. It was a mistake. Did they really set it up for another one? I hope they don't follow through.
Black Dynamite: Kicking ass taking names and being hilarious.

Oh yes I did! Of course it was terrible but it was still watchable in that 'Sunday afternoon TV couch potato mode' where you will watch any old crap whilst you try and digest your Sunday lunch and I would watch it again!
