you can see glimpses of scorcese's greatness but that is about it. a dumb story coupled with next to no surprises and laughably terrible fighting scenes. on the latter note, it is amazing how de niro manages to walk around and bitch about being shot in the neck. and the guy earlier that gets shot in the chest 2-3 times then gives the shooter a bear hug while walking through a restaurant then gets shot 2-3 more times and then continues to repeat this action a bit more before finally dying. i am surprised i managed to get through all of this. some of the dialogue was pretty good. a good deal of this film was framed poorly, but i guess scorcese developed his knack for doing the opposite later.

Mean Streets was great, a simple story about loyalty to a friend combined with wanting to move up. Deniro manages to walk around like he does because of who his friend is. Really good film, not great but it certainly show cases Scorsese's talents and shows techniques he uses in later films. You've actually reminded me, I need to get Mean Streets on DVD and add it to my collection.

Adventureland.

Very good, possibly my favourite film out of that whole 'franchise' so far. Well, was Pineapple Express done by the same director? I dont even know, if it was then it's my second favourite. But yeah, this was so, so good, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't majorly turned on by Kristen Stewart in a Lou Reed t-shirt. Dayum.

I've seen it 3 times, it's just one of them films that's so damn watchable. Glad someone round here likes it. *Points at V&F*

what do you like about it exactly? care to expand on "one of them films that's so damn watchable."

Well, it is what it is - a very basic love story of boy meets girl but done in a not too over the top fashion. It's just different characters interacting with each other, the story of instant connection between the two combined with the fact Em is already seeing somebody else, you know something's got to give there which makes for entertainment value, you want to know how it will conclude. As well as it being funny it has a certain charm to it, the acting is pretty much what you'd expect, decent enough without being great. I think Kristen Steward can only play moody girls that fall in love and Jesse Eisenberg is a good actor (just see Squid and the Whale..) The pace of it is a nice pace, not too fast and not too slow.
