I feel about the same about this one as I did the original; good dialogue comedy but not great...

The Book Of Eli
Denzel Washington has a gift for making very stupid films seem watchable, and he compensates for the sub-par script, acting and direction, with the rest of the film being a walking cliche.

I have no idea why 12 Monkeys would make you think of that.
Heh... I really messed up Mnemonic.
Ok, good tip.

Regarding 12 Monkeys... I don't know, I need to watch it again. The first go-round just seemed cheesy to me.
I'm starting to think it has something to do with Bruce Willis though... I thought Surrogates was cheesy as well.

I liked it in a weird way, it was just bizarre. I don't like Michael Douglas but his performance wasn't bad, he could play everything the character needed cold, angry, happy. I love bizarre films like that but I don't fully know what to make of it, it was just strange.

Hmm .. 12 Monkeys for me doesn't come near The Fisher King or Brazil in ters of both quality and enjoyment. Like you've, I've only seen it once though. I call myself a Terry Gilliam fan, so I too should watch it again. The other two films I like so much from him are definetly growers that are better on the second or even third watching so I expect that should go for 12 Monkeys too ..

The thing for me, I think, is I didn't feel that attached to the characters in 12 monkeys as I did in the others.

I've got a feeling 12 Monkeys is the only Gilliam movie I was meant to enjoy...

same for me. it is less character driven and more of a mystery.

Surrogates was pretty (though I sort of enjoyed it simply because it took place in my home city).

Don't think of 12 Monkeys as a Bruce Willis movie though, think of it as a Terry Gilliam movie. You opinion of Gilliam is probably a much more accurate barometer of how much you'd enjoy the movie than your opinion of Bruce Willis is. Also worth noting is that it was written by the same couple who wrote Unforgiven and Blade Runner.
