Simon Pegg maybe? Tim from Spaced and Rob both have that geeky charm...

For me it would depend on what kind of film they were making.

If they were doing the romantic comedy of the American version just based in London then perhaps Simon Pegg would be good for that.

If they were doing a more faithful version of the book i'd choose more of a method actor who could do comedy rather than a comic actor. My first choice would be Julian Rhind Tutt.

I love the movie - it also holds some sentimental value for me. I read the book, but, it's actually one of the few movies I like better than the book.

I really didn't care about Rob or his relationship problems, and his monologues were really tiresome...

But Jack Black's scenes are classic. I've probably seen the movie a few dozen times just for those precious fifteen minutes (lately I've just been skipping the other stuff).

Anyone else slightly annoyed that the movie/book got its title from the Elvis Costello song (and the book talks about Costello a lot), yet the only Costello song in the movie is Shipbuilding (and you have to crank up your volume to the max to hear it)?
