You shouldn't start with an old horror movie like Halloween. It's a classic, but its low budget and age make it more funny than scary. And the remake isn't worthwhile. Plus you'll see all the deaths coming.

You should start with The Descent. Very psychological, but not confusing. And its newer, so the effects are better - you'll be more interested.

I thought the Descent was such rubbish! There was only one scary bit in the whole film.

There are so many great horror movies, The Descent should be pretty low down on the 'where to start' list.

So my friend ended up renting Halloween.

But here's the catch. It was the Rob Zombie 2007 remake, not the original like I was hoping. So I watched it, expecting a few good scares anyways.

Film didn't scare me one bit. All the cheap tactics they used to try and make you jump in horror were so predictable. The acting was bad, and now the story is ruined for me.

So, what film will truly scare me? I'd like something a little more old school.

In my personal opinion it's difficult to find old school films that actually scare you. It's usually the more recent films that really achieve scaring me. Unless anybody else has any other recommendations of course!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ( hardly no blood in it but still cerebral film making)
