I never had any problems with the UMD's. I dropped mine and broke the battery cover off, so it was taped together. Then I rolled over on it with my keys in my pocket and killed the LCD screen.

Played through two Doom II maps sent to me and made by Unitron!

At 7:15 where I'm standing still in front of the door, I spilled beer on my shirt and had to wipe it off.

Best moment in the video is 9:16 where I'm totally acing the room that killed me in the first attempt.

Both were fun maps. A bit basic in the way almost everything took place at the same elevation. But fun for sure.
I've played a ton of crappy, un-fun custom maps. These were not very flashy, but actually fun to play.

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed them! That teleport in the first map was a bit buggy, the teleport functions were probably the hardest thing to do.

Did you enjoy one more than the other? Also, if you have any recommendations with how I could improve, I would appreciate it.

I got paranoid when I first got to that room where the teleporter sounds start appearing. You see me turning around because I think I'm about to be surrounded by teleporting enemies in the big room I'm coming from.

The slim corridors with lots of the same types of enemies in the second map were kinda redundant. You just hold down the fire button and the rest takes care of itself. It could also have been fun to have more, bigger rooms with holes in the ground, or places where you have to walk on the edge along the walls. The rooms at the start of the level that played with this idea didn't do much with it and it wasn't really hard to deal with at all.

Overall, I'd suggest maybe avoiding making everything take place in cramped corridors. Open rooms with structures inside them are also a good way to make for more variety. Different types of rooms mean you have different options when fighting the enemies. You can also do stuff like placing enemies on ledges, so they shoot down on the player, etc. Just more variety in various ways would be neat.

But I did like that these levels felt kinda like a throwback to Doom 1 level design. Doom 2 does a lot to get away from just rectangular rooms and corridors.

Thanks for the feedback!

Next time I use a teleport I will definitely make sure it works correctly so it doesn't do that or make it so enemies can't use it.

I had started making a map using the Wolf3D textures and enemies from the secret map in Doom 2, but I might put that off and make a more open Doom map with bigger spaces. You've given me some good ideas for ways to design them, and build more on how I did it with the smaller maps.

Next time I finish another one, I'll be sure to send it to you.

Cool, I'd love to play whatever you come up with :)

And I'd say the teleporter issue had a positive side, since it's arguably kind of cool that it ****s with your mind the first time you play the level.

What program do you use to make levels btw? It's been many years since I last attempted to use a Doom level editor, and the ones I found back then were not very nice to use.

I use Doom Builder 2, which lets you create maps for any game running on the Doom engine. It's pretty simple, and the tutorials that they have on their website make it real easy to get the hang of the basics:
