Apex Legends

It's been a good while since I jumped on the battle royale bandwagon. I don't really hate the genre all that much, I just felt like it was getting too samey. I've been playing a bit of Apex Legends and I am loving it. It's kind of a mixture of Call of Duty's Blackout, PUBG, Overwatch with the movement mechanics of Titanfall. Matches can go pretty quick and the looting aspect is fantastic. Some weapons are great, others are not. So far, haven't felt like getting killed felt cheap. Still getting used to the weapon play though I already love it. Overall a fantastic addition to the battle royale scene. This one will only get better in time. It's already so refined as well and I've not had a single issue with performance or server performance etc. And it's free to play. Same model as Fortnite. Totally free, but you can buy some unique skins if you want. Definitely worth your time.

PoS is evidently a very story heavy game, so that's a turn-off for me.

Original Sin seems more appealing to me, but I'm still not sure I'm gonna bother any time soon. I really prefer dungeon crawlers to story heavy RPGs.

So I don't know. I'm aware they're games that are supposed to be good, but they're not on my lengthy Steam and GOG wish lists.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around things to recommend you.

I feel bad for anyone that hasn't experienced DoS II at the very least.

It does look pretty neat. And the price is low right now. I like that it looks JRPG inspired and anime styled, but with a bit of restraint. A lot of anime designs these days are just TOO anime if you know what I mean. This game is keeping it simple and I like that.

Is the music good?

And what about the battle system?

And not least: Is there an insanely high random encounter rate? There better not be!

It's understandable. I've been playing tonnes of games since 1992 or something, and I've cultivated set of prefrerences that not everybody will be able to relate to. I could write a novel about my view on what good game design is and what is and isn't interesting to me about games in general, but I'll spare you.

Chapter one: Don't waste my time.
Chapter two: Why I'm not into escapism.
Chapter three: Your story sucks and you should feel bad.
Chapter four: Reward schedule oriented design is patronizing and evil.
Chapter five: Separating good gameplay design from bad gameplay design - the Devil is in the details.
Chapter six: Gameplay > graphics - I will play your Excel spreadsheet RPG and like it.
Chapter seven: Why small studios making small focused games is my favorite thing and why big studios making sprawling epics is not.
Chapter eight: Jonathan Blow and his influence on my approach to games.
Chapter nine: Gritty and grim makes me grouchy.
