Now that I've got my PS1 emulator working I've been playing a bunch of old JRPGs, since they don't require a controller to play correctly. I was kinda shocked just how many PS1 rpgs were so relatively primitive. Most of them are 2D, and just kind of SNES rpgs with a graphical overhaul. Even the Final Fantasy games use 2d prerendered backgrounds. That's not to criticize these games, as I'm currently enjoying the **** out of Suikoden 2, a game that went out of its way to be a 2D rpg, but it's still kind of jarring.

Oh yeah, and Suikoden 2 is pretty sweet so far. The combat is pretty standard, but from my experience with 4 and 5 that's not surprising, but the selling points from those later, PS2 games, that I remember are that you have a MASSIVE cast of characters to build your parties from, like, I think this game has just over a hundred or something, and you get to build your own army and base.
The first Suikoden I played was 4, and I loved it - even though its combat system was totally generic - just because the world was made up of cool little islands, and your military base of operations that you could build up was a galleon, so you could just sail around like a pirate. But that game is still considered one of the worst of the series. Then I played 5, which is generally considered the second best of the series, and its story was pretty epic, with another massive cast of characters, and a relatively better combat system, even if it was still JRPG standard. One of the staples of the series is that you get to engage in actual battles, and while 4 had some decent, turn-based naval combat, 5 had a sort of dumbed-down RTS system that took place on both land and sea that was a definite improvement. And Suikoden 2 is generally considered to be the best of the entire series, so I'm hoping for a brilliant story and some awesome large-scale combat, whatever form it may take. Even at this early stage, where it's basically just a good JRPG, it's still caught my attention in a way that I can't really define, so I'm hoping that that is a very good sign. I doubt that a game that was basically a throwback to 2D SNES rpgs would get such massive amounts of praise, being held up against the best Final Fantasy games even, if there wasn't some serious magic to it beyond just the combination of turn-based rpg cliches with larger battles. |
TFW you drunkenly spend $20 on a ****ty PC gaming controller, that refuses to work, and requires you to install drivers that may or may not contain a trojan, only to find out the next day that you could have just used your 360 controller that already had a cord. And is now working perfectly.
FML. |
Have you played Suikoden I? Also what emulator are you using, I'd love to play some of those games. I bought a ps1, 2 controllers, and a mem card for $20, and all the games I want are like ~$70-80 on Ebay.
I want my FFT back. |
Been really into CS:GO again. Nothing like a good kill streak on good ol' Deathmatch to get the blood flowing.

*I'm using PCSX2*
Alright, so like, I try to play Marvel vs. Capcom and the FPS is way too fast, but I get that working fine by turning on "Wait for Vsync to refresh", but now I'm playing Silent Hill 2, and I'm getting an FPS of about 50, and everything is just so noticeably slow, even when I turn it off. |
So, is anyone here into The Division ? Yeah yeah, ubisoft mmo sounds like "cancer of the penis", a very bad combo I agree, but it's actually quite fun (the game, not the cancer),very stable and if you have someone to play with, it's rather fun. Anyway, I've reached the level cap, from now on it's just equipment grind, and I'm sort of stuck, unable to get any better equipment so I could approach more difficult missions (gear score 163, all gold). Youtube tutorials are about as useful as a wool ***** would be.
Anyone ? |
Super Mario Sunshine. GC was a classic console, and Sunshine was so refreshing to play, especially during the summer. Still, I think the game was made to be unneccesarily hard, and the controls can be quite frustrating at times. I mean, it does a lot of things that Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy did better. Plus, why are most of the tunes just remixes of the same tune?

I've now started emulating Gamecube games and you won't see me as much cause Wind Waker.

Has anybody played Transistor? It looks like it might be a cool RPG, but with my limited funds and memory, I'd like to know if it's amazing or just cool.
|
I attempted to play it but I didn't like how close up to my tv I had to sit to see wtf was going on. I also didn't like the diagonal grid.

God damn it. I've been bleeding money out the whazoo the past couple weeks: beer, pizza, eating out, beer, etc, and I was planning to cut back a lot. But instead I just dropped $20 for Borderlands 2 on Steam. FML.

Skyrim remastered!!!
New Pokemon from Sun and Moon!!! Crash Bandicoot!!! That's all I know and I don't care to know more. Actually wait, new Zelda game as well. |
That new WW1 Battlefield looks rather good. Even despite the fact that to play a French soldier, you'll have to buy a DLC :D But it looks good.

Decided to give Borderlands: The Pre Sequel a try again, and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I was when it was released. I wasn't originally a fan of the Australian voice actors but I've come to understand the charm. Great game, looking forward to putting many hours into it.

I'm playing the first Silent Hill right now, and I beat Parasite Eve a few weeks back. I have to say, the FMVs in both games have aged pretty fucking well.
Oh yeah, and I'm also trying to make my way through Killer7. Now that's some supremely weird shit right there. |
