sure they are a minority but it's not that drastic...it's probably around 60% men to 40% women nowadays

That seems like a very unlikely ratio to me. Any time I go somewhere like GameStop it's very likely to be almost 100% filled with dudes.

Currently Replaying Kane & Lynch Dead men & also a lot of Gravitron 2 on steam.

Eagerly awaiting Brink with looks like an awesome FPS.

when I go to my local GameStop there are atleast 3 females in there at any given time and that's not counting the one girl that works behind the counter.

There are definitely more female gamers with the Wii pushing for casual gaming, the xbox360/kinect out and having dance central

3 females, but the question is how many males? What's the ratio?

Like Lateralus said, if there are various organizations and products out there with the express purpose of attracting female gamers, then clearly they're seen as a vast untapped market. That pretty much by definition means there are far less of them than male gamers.

One anecdotal percentage of how many females to males ratio was in the gamestop that I attended doesn't represent the majority of the female gamers overall

Those organizations/products that are geared to try to attract more female gamers have been working... they have been around for the past few years and that's why there IS an increase in female gamers.

There is indeed an increase of female gamers but I'd say it's still a male-dominated area. Plus, the games that female gamers tend to play are, as you put it, more casual games like on Wii. I still think XBox is mostly male dominated, and even PC games like WoW are heavily populated by guys. I read somewhere that like 60% of the female toons you see are actually guys. I have nothing against the fact that it is a male dominated field, I think it just is.

Of course, but if every time one goes into Gamestop it's either all males or mostly males a pattern definitely begins to emerge.
