Do you mean World at War? It's not called COD5. And what I said is still true, if MW2 is a direct sequel to COD4 (unlike World at War), then I don't know why it's not being called COD5.

Infinity Ward originally wanted to not have "Call of Duty" attached at all, and release it as just Modern Warfare 2, but then activision twisted their arm.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward have been switching off making the games in the series which is why the even numbered ones that Infinity Ward developed (2,4,6) are better than the odd numbered ones that Treyarch developed (3,5).

I can't for the life of me figure out why that's a good idea though.

probably more of a logistical reason than anything else.

one company can start working on their next title while the other is finishing up the current release. it allows for the publisher to pump out more titles on a consistent basis and lowers the risk involved by having experienced resources in two camps that 'can' work in tandem if required (likely paid boatloads of money to do so)

So I just finished Borderlands..... and I'm sad to say I'm really disappointed in the ending. I won't give anything away but it was so lame and really had no connection to the rest of the game it was ridiculous. Other than that and the horrible fast travel system the game was fun. I'm hardly seeing the rpg side of it though.

Now I'll be moving on the Batman: Arkham Asylum, and then Dragon Age: Origins. I'll probably be playing a little Osmos as well.

yeah Borderlands seemed a little rushed in the final zones. the ending is a total WTF as well. as for the rpg side, it's about as deep as any Diablo style game. quests + stats is all you need to call yourself a /rpg now.

Dragon Age is awesome but the combat can be rough. i'm getting seriously roughed up by a corrupted spider queen at the moment. tried a half dozen times tonight.

I get that part.

It just that the Treyarch titles dont match up to the Infinity Ward titles when it comes down to gameplay so they're weakening the brand. I know quite a few people who won't buy a COD game anymore b/c they played COD 3 which when compared to COD 2 was horrible. I would have assumed a company would rather be known for consistent quality.

But then I remember I live in America.

I'm about halfway through Dead Space at this point and it's blowing my mind. The guns keep getting cooler and the villains keep getting scarier.

I'm up to the Destroyer right now but my console has been fucking up lately, the screen will freeze and then pixelate. Pissed me off because it happened right as I was about to kill him. I'm playing as Mordecai and ended up selling all my powerful sniper rifles in favor of ones with an acidic element to help me against the crimson lance enemies.

My guy was Mordecai too. I really only carried one sniper at a time though, and my guy was way over leveled so by the time I got to the ending I already had a 100% chance to ignore shields when using a sniper, so that helped a ton against the crimson lance and even more against the weird guardian things that were hard to get crits on. By the ending I was carrying in my four slots one sniper, one revolver, one combat rifle, and one eridian weapon. I also had a bunch of extra weapons in my backpack.

mr dave 12-05-2009 07:39 PM

i played through with Brick. mostly submachine guns, and shotguns. started using combat rifles and rocket launchers more near the end too. had to rely on static weapons to take out the aliens.

Yay, finally someone else who plays/likes it! One thing I remember fondly from it aside from being brilliant is that it's so long. You get a damn lot of game for your money :)

storymilo, post your thoughts on Batman when you have some :)

Sparky 12-06-2009 01:28 PM

Dead Space was great. The only part i didn't like was dragging around the box before the final boss.

I know I'm late, but I just hopped on the Left 4 Dead bandwagon. I absolutely love it! Bought Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 at the same time, so I will be playing this for a while it seems.

I picked up Left 4 Dead last week on Steam for $7.49. I'd already owned it for Xbox 360 but without XBox Live the game is pretty much a game you play for an hour and put down. Playing with other people certainly does change the whole feel of the game, but I'd still love to see a game with L4D mechanics and an actual story.

NSW 12-07-2009 11:24 AM

I have it for the XBox, and started playing the offline co-op last night. Typically I only play Xbox games online because like you mentioned, it's changes the feel of the game and IMO it's just alot more fun. But surprisingly I liked playing it well enough with just me and one other person.

Since I'm not the best at video games anyway, I think the reason I liked it so much was that the difficulty level wasn't so out of this world that I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere.

How is L4D 2 compared to the first one?

Anyone else play this? If you're into MMOGs and you like puzzle games, you're doing yourself a disservice by not playing this.

This might be the best game I've ever played.

Sparky 12-10-2009 05:25 PM

i think im the only one who liked majoras mask more.

Akira 12-10-2009 05:25 PM

I preferred Link's Awakening personally, out of all of them.

Sparky 12-10-2009 05:27 PM

is that the gameboy one?

Akira 12-10-2009 05:28 PM

Yeah, just felt more refined. Like they took a lot of faff out so it would be better on that system.

jacklovezhimself 12-10-2009 05:29 PM

I think finally finishing Ocarina of Time was so satisfying to me and I think that's what made me like it so much.

I don't think there exists a bad Zelda game.

Well sure:) I just reached Bane, so I don't think I'm very far through the game, or at least I hope not. So far, it's been pretty awesome. The combat and controls are easy to figure out, and the graphics are really fantastic. I like the game's three different types of game play, "Combat, Silent Killer, and Explorer", and I especially have fun hiding in the shadows and striking at enemies from behind. My favorite part so far is probably the scary as fuck part where you're stuck in the morgue with all the voices and empty corpse container places moving about, and then the scarecrow appears out of the body bag.

So yeah I definitely agree so far that it's cool. My only problem is that the game requires you to use detective mode, or at least makes it easier if you are in detective mode, and that really reduces the graphical awesomeness.

I loved Majora's Mask.. I thought it was a lot more challenging than Ocarina of Time actually.

Guybrush 12-11-2009 04:29 AM

The boring thing about Majora's Mask was doing the same things over as I recall. Never played too far in it though.

Captain Awesome 12-11-2009 05:07 AM

MW2 - becoming addicted to the online.

What I love about OOT and MM is how they complimented each other beautifully, what one didn't have, the other one did.

They were so similar yet so different.

They really did compliment each other quite well, but I still prefer Majora's Mask to Ocarania of Time. I liked the darker style and story that took place as well as collecting the masks. Majora's Mask is one of the few games I've actually bothered to complete 100%, most of the time I can't be arsed.

Anyhow I got my first game in the mail with my shiny new Game Fly account. For those of you unfamiliar with the service it is essentially Netflix for video games, except it costs a little bit more.

Let me know what you think of Prototype. I was thinking of picking it up but I keep hearing bad things about it.

It's more fun to mess around GTA style than to do the missions. The story line is dire, as expected and the missions are boring. It's a good way to waste a few hours though.

abdullah424 12-11-2009 05:04 PM

Cool.

Sounds like Crackdown & Infamous in that case, allthough I did enjoy most of the story missions in Infamous.

I think I'll give it another month or so to lose value and snag a copy at gamespot.

In the 45 minutes or so i got to play it before my XBox crapped out on me I got this impression from it. Sandbox mayhem is certainly a big drawing point for the game, very GTA4ish, except Niko couldn't run up the side of a building then jump off of it and land onto a taxi then get up like nothing had happened. The graphics are a little less than I was expecting, but I don't normally focus on that specifically. It's really hard to say what I think because of the short time I got to play it. My biggest gripe so far would be the hard to read instructions on the screen. I'm playing the game on a 42" HDTV with the correct settings on the Xbox so when I'm struggling to read the instructions, there's certainly a problem.

If you're really interested in the game and are impatient I'm sure you could find a cheap copy on ebay or half.com.

Captain Awesome 12-12-2009 02:42 PM

infamous > prototype.

i really felt like prototype was a waste of money.
