Think I'm playing way too much Minecraft. Keep feeling like I'm going to be jumped by a zombie in real life.

Can someone explain this game to me? I downloaded the free version to my phone to check it out and don't have the slightest clue what I'm supposed to be doing.

Collecting stuff, exploring randomly generated worlds, searching out rarer blocks/elements, building.

There's a lot more to the proper game but in Pocket Edition I'm basically mining to find all the gold needed to make a Nether reactor. In between making a castle and killing zombies and creepers.

So you just walk around and dig? I ask because that's what I've been doing but nothing of interest ever really seems to happen.

Well if you play in Creative mode you basically explore, in Survival mode zombies, spiders, creepers and skeletons come out when it gets dark. You basically collect stuff to fight them off and make some sort of progress whether it's building some sort of safe zone or whatever.

How do you build a safe zone?

Well you're never really safe but basically some walls to get between you and the zombies. Half the time a creeper will blow out half your house anyway.

Basic progression is something along these lines;

Chop down trees and collect some wood
Use wood to make planks
Use planks to make crafting table
Use crafting table to make tools
Use tools to collect more resources
Use pick axe to mine ore and gems
Use furnace to melt ore
Use metals for stronger tools
Use metal tools to collect diamonds
Use diamonds to make Nether Reactor Core
Use reactor core and a heap of gold to make Nether Reactor
Use Nether Reactor to spawn zombie pig men and a bunch of other stuff


In the full version (I mean the PC version not the paid mobile version) there are a lot more varied terrains and other realms you can access eventually but I haven't progressed that far yet.

That sounds like a lot of work. It reminds of this MMO I used to play called A Tale in the Desert.

It starts up similar enough like that but branches off into even more tedious tasks. The only good thing about that game was that once every cycle the masses would vote to exile one player from the game. There was usually one troublemaker that truly deserved it and would get banned from the game.

So I assume by collecting things you mean I have to just walk over those little floating cubes that appear? How do I turn them into planks?

I broke down and bought SimCity.
