Yeah, that was very well done. Nothing beats using that, doing a flip and starting to shoot again. It was so satisfying.

I picked up Dantes Inferno the other day, only sunk a bout 2 hours into so far but it's definitely pretty fun. Nothing spectacular but definitely a solid time waster.

The Last of Us

Now that the new puppy is a little more trained and mellowed out and that my PS3 works and that I have a proper living room setup, I can finally play this game.

First impressions are very good. From a graphical standpoint it's an absolute marvel given what the PS3 specs are in this day and age. The story is very well written and captivating and the environments are well designed and offer a multitude of paths. Combat flows seamlessly, switching from gun to melee to hand-to-hand on a fly all feels natural. In fact I think the combat is the best part about the game, because each encounter feels like a puzzle. You can try to run in and tank it up, but you'll quickly be killed and the scarcity of ammo and medkits makes it a poor approach. There's a real nice predatory stealth element added, where you can attract enemies to your position to strangle or shiv them, but if you're clumsy or not careful enough it can quickly turn against you. This might be because I chose to play on the harder difficulty, which is most likely what normal use to be back in the day.

Anyways this game showed up on pretty much everyone's Game of the Year list and it certainly deserves its place. If games were to stop being produced for the PS3 this game would be a perfect swansong, however I think the console still has a year or two left in it. Whether or not we get another game on this level of quality remains to be seen, but if you have a PS3 then this is one of those games you need in your library.

PS3's are only going to get cheaper, and there's enough exclusive titles on it that more than warrant it's price.

I had a PS3 a while back and played through Prototype and absolutely loved the experience. But then money got tight and sold it for like $200. I may get another one if there's enough games that I like.

The original Prototype? That game was fun for a few days, but got dull after I realized there wasn't really much to do in the sandbox world and the combat system was shallow. I'd like to know if they improved on it in the later games.

So I'm getting decently far in Dantes Inferno and I gotta say this game is **** tons of fun. I have a better idea of the combat now and the game certainly knows how to make you feel bad ass. The boss battles have all been really good too.

Is it a game that will end up as my GOAT? No. Is it just the right amount of mindless fun? Yep

Also gotta give pros to Visceral for making such a morbid and twisted version of hell. Some freaky ****
