Been reading Spider Woman's original solo series. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting, considering Marvel literally made her purely to keep DC from making a Spider Woman first (both companies were on bad terms after the whole Wonder Woman vs. Wonder Man thing). Way more of a Horror comic than I was expecting. Werewolves, killer clowns, a guy described as "the thin man" who paralyzes people and then sews their mouths shut, evil dolls, etc. And Jessica Drew is actually pretty interesting. Because of her pheromones, most people straight up hate and fear her on an instinctive level, and she's pretty much homeless, penniless, and friendless when the series kicks off.

Also reading the original Ms. Marvel series. Hasn't really grabbed me yet.

Nah that's her current series, but it's also one of my favorite things. She's pregnant so she goes to a space hospital to have alien doctors give her a checkup. And then the Skrulls attack.

When I'm reading a comic book, I rarely pay attention to the names of the artists. But sometimes an issue in a series just looks so ****ing good that it makes all of the others look like ass. So I've gotta give Steve Leialoha props for making the art pop so much that I actually bothered to check who made it.

I don't want to put down the main artist of Spider Woman too much, 'cause he did have a lot of great panels, but he always had this super lazy way of turning her hair into an awkward spike so that he wouldn't have to actually draw it moving around. Leialoha was like "Nah dude, I don't play like that."

I'm curious what the film rights are for Spider-Woman. She's got "Spider" in her name but hasn't been associated with Spider-Man for most of her history and has a completely different origin story.

I'd say she's fair game for the MCU. Doesn't even live on the same coast as Spider Man (or at least not in her OG series). Sony ain't got shit on her.

I imagine that neither Marvel nor Sony particularly feel like including a character in their movies who's only known by nerds and who they have to explain is totally not a female Spider-Man. But if they can fit her into the Captain Marvel movie...

If Fox tries to make a She Hulk movie, 'cause she was a member of the Fantastic Four, I will kill myself.

At least with She-Hulk she's a very distinct character from the Hulk, and both Hulk movies bombed, so I think there's room for her to step up and become rightfully the most popular Hulk with a bombass action comedy.

DMZ

Read the first five issues and this bitch is kind of a monster. There hasn't been much of any backstory yet so all I've got is bare bones: in the near(ish) future, America is in the midst of a new civil war between the United States of America and the secessionist Free States of America and New York has become a battleground with the FSA army sitting on the Jersey side of the Hudson and the USA on the New York side, with the island of Manhattan a bombed out no man's land in-between which has descended into lawless barbarism after an indeterminate number of years with little to no contact or aid from the outside world. We don't know anything else about this world: the year, other areas of conflict, state of each nation, who's winning, what their governments are like, nothing no nada. Just that it sucks ass to be in Manhattan.

We view this world through the eyes of Matty Roth, a sheltered kid going into a journalism internship with absolutely no idea that he is to be immediately put on a helicopter with another reporter as the very first news crew to enter Manhattan since the fighting began. **** happens and he becomes stranded in the DMZ alone to fulfill his mission to tell the stories of the civilian survivors still on the island.

Some issues are more episodic, giving us small but fascinating glimpses into the hellish, alien, but very human world that has risen from the chaos, where each block is its own world, while others are more extended arcs that deal with conflicts involving the two armies breathing down Manhattan's neck, ready to rain indiscriminate hellfire down on whatever they deem as even a potential threat, civilians be damned.

DMZ is basically the story of Stalingrad transplanted to America to give the (Murican) reader a visceral idea of how much they might not want war to be a thing. No punches are pulled and everyone ends up with at least a light shit stain in their drawers. The US is... the US, the DMZ survivors can be as helpful as they can be murderous (even on the same block), and even Matt has his moments of severely ****ing up. It's a series that could very easily become nihilistic if it weren't grounded in finding the small slivers of humanity underneath the filth of war, showing that though humankind are capable of horrors beyond imagining, two snipers on opposite sides of hell can still write love notes to each other that they read with their rifle scopes. Yeah, that happened. It was awesome. Like this comic. ****ing read it already.

Actually gave this a shot and yeah it's corny af and melodramatic. I love corny as **** and melodramatic so I'm now about halfway through the 4th TPB. The amount of times normal conversations turn into innuendo is definitely forced but other than that I have no real complaints. The characters are highly likeable, the art is appealing and can be both inviting and sexy even at the same time, and man do some of those outfits look cool as ****. **** your tattoos, DWV, but fetish gear can be awesome.

There's also more than enough boobs and sex obvs. If you want to see a bunch of bondage then you'll get your fill, though it stops just short of being straight up porn. Softcore is definitely achieved though. Too bad I know next to nothing about dom/sub relationships or I'd have a better idea whether or not Sunstone was at all realistic, but it certainly feels better than what I hear from 50 Shades of Grey and the subject is at least treated with some respect and openmindedness.

Would recommend to anyone who likes a good joke with their wank.
