Comic Book Geeks

Any of you into comics??? I have been an avid collector for quite a few years now. Mostly into the Marvel and Max titles, favorites are Captain America and the Punisher.

The new Punisher is BRUTAL!!!! I love it more than liquor

jazzfromhell 01-20-2006 12:08 AM

Yeah, I love comics. I started reading Batman after seeing Batman Begins (brilliant movie) and things took off from there. Favorites are The Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween, and V for Vendetta. Still getting off the ground, don't have too many yet.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 01:03 AM

Dark Knight Returns was okay but my favorite Batman is The Killing Joke, it has a very sick dark storyline with some of the best Batman artwork I have ever seen. It will set you back $15 - $20, but it is well worth it

Crowe 01-20-2006 01:32 AM

Ah I JUST finished reading the Dark Knight Returns and the Dark Knight 2. Great, great series! My favorite series has to be Kingdom Come. I looooooooove comics. I am a largely loyal to DC though, Supes is my favorite hands down. I'm a classic lover. But Marvel hasn't flown under my radar :P

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 01:41 AM

I don't find the DC characters as easy to get into. I haven't found a Batman storyarc that I like yet, I have heard good things about the Vertigo titles however I am apprehensive about shelling out my hard earned on any

Seconded, personally i think DC blows I mean they could do really well but they only seemed to care about batman and superman. They did a comic book the watchmen which was awesome as hell thats probaly my favorite next to spiderman.

jazzfromhell 01-20-2006 02:42 PM

I've been trying to find the Killing Joke for a while, the only places I can ever find it are amazon (price is outrageous, **** that) and eBay, which is where I'll probably end up picking it up, one of these days.

Crowquill-Watchmen is excellent indeed. I don't know what they "focus" on most, but DC has a ton of non-Batman/Superman stuff. Check out the stuff on their Vertigo label, there's a lot of quality material in there (V for Vendetta, Sandman, Preacher, etc.).

sleepy jack 01-20-2006 02:43 PM

I know they do, but they only seem to populize on those two series. Batman is good but superman is a totally lame comic.

Laces Out Dan! 01-20-2006 02:46 PM

I really wanna start gettin into Comics

anticipation 01-20-2006 02:46 PM

The Green Lantern is a pimp.

I disagree, but opinions are opinions.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 10:23 PM

I recommend The Punisher on the MAX line. Incredibly sick storylines and ultraviolent, swearing and nudity. Check out the Up is Down and Black is White mini-series or TPB, sickest story ever. Garth Ennis is a genius

Crowe 01-20-2006 10:31 PM

Superman is cool when he's in story lines with other characters. The Death of Superman were some of my favorite comics ever. Just epic. Just so ****ing epic. Reading the Ultimates right now, cool stuff forreal. If you can't get into the Dark Knight 2 comics - then something is wrong with you lol. Will be going back and reading Crisis on Infinite Earths as soon as I can.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 10:41 PM

^which Ultimates are you reading??

Crowe 01-20-2006 11:08 PM

Ah jeez. Um the first book #12.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 11:29 PM

^issue #5 of that series is awesome! Grey Hulk goes berzerk on NYC because his girlfriend ran off with Freddie Prinze Jr. Captain America kicks Bruce Banner right in the nuts. AWESOME

Laces Out Dan! 01-20-2006 11:52 PM

Anyone hit up Constantine.....i wanna get some of those

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 11:55 PM

Hellblazer??? I heard it is good but I would pick up Preacher over that. Ennis is God.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-20-2006 11:58 PM

Did anyone pick up the 5 part Secret War??? Best 5 comics I have ever bought!!! It took almost 2 years to make, all painted gorgeous artwork. Hands down the most beautiful illustrations I have ever seen

Crowe 01-21-2006 12:58 AM

I need to read the Secret Wars. That's a marvel join right? That's when She-Hulk joins the FF after the Thing stays on whatever planet that is. I have heard about it in passing. I need to read it.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-21-2006 01:11 AM

No, it is a new one where Nick Fury brainwashes the Marvel Universe to take down the dictatorship in LATVERIA

Vismund Cygnus 01-21-2006 02:22 PM

I love the Spawn comics.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-22-2006 02:49 AM

I never got into Spawn but everyone that did couldn't stop talking about it, I watched the animated movie and it was really cool though

MURDER JUNKIE 01-22-2006 11:26 PM

There is a new Nick Fury coming out on wednesday that should be good, the last mini series was great. Nick orders hookers 4 at a time, awesome

Laces Out Dan! 02-05-2006 11:48 PM

Ok so for a beginner in the comic book world what comics should i look at ......i find super hero stuff very interesting and i also would like the stay at a reasonable price

jazzfromhell 02-06-2006 12:05 AM

I'd try Watchmen, by Alan Moore. It's $20, but you can get it on amazon for $10 (albeit, w/shipping). It closely examines and questions the idea of being a "superhero", as well as how mentally stable such a person could possibly be. It's a classic comic book, and is considered the book that convinced many to actually take the art form seriously.

Laces Out Dan! 02-06-2006 12:09 AM

How much are like DC Comics and stuff?

jazzfromhell 02-06-2006 12:16 AM

Well, if you want single issues, I wouldn't know, I don't by them. If you want TPB's (trade paperbacks, the bigger graphic novels that are either complete stories or collections of single issues), they vary usually from between a little less than $10, to around $30. There are some really huge ones, often hard-cover, that cost more than that.

Laces Out Dan! 02-06-2006 12:32 AM

Thats cool......thanks a lot for your help

MURDER JUNKIE 02-06-2006 01:01 AM

Single issues range from about 3.75 to 5.75
for most comics

Laces Out Dan! 02-06-2006 01:07 AM

Thanks a lot...ill start off most likely with some single issues

MURDER JUNKIE 02-06-2006 01:16 AM

That is what I would recommend, find out what you like. Lately I have been buying old copies of Preacher, it is seriously screwed up and disturbing. I like it

No problem. MURDER JUNKIE probably knows more than I do, I've only been reading comics for about half a year, but I'll always help with what I know.

bkugotit 02-06-2006 09:11 AM

i beleive my favorite was when the joker killed robin and the oracle...then batman got his revenge big time!!! i f-ing love batman!!!

i also hate superman, so i also liked it much when Doomsday killed superman!!! i think i cried a single tear!

jazzfromhell 02-06-2006 05:16 PM

Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks Superman haters.

sleepy jack 02-06-2006 10:01 PM

MURDER JUNKIE 02-06-2006 10:10 PM

last month my comic store had it's yearly clearance sale and I dropped $300 on comics and $175 on a Death Row Marv Sin City Statue. I will have to settle down for a while

Crowe 02-07-2006 12:29 PM

Don't hate on Supes because he ****ing rocks. Speaking of Supes, I just picked up a Graphic Novel called Red Son. It's about if Superman landed in Communist Russia instead of Smallville, Kansas. It is probably one of the most ingenius comics I've read in a LONG, LONG time. Very cool stuff. Cheap on Amazon, like 15 bucks.

MURDER JUNKIE 02-07-2006 11:19 PM

I heard that comic was really well done, I was going to buy it for the cover alone but I don't collect any superman at all. The only Supe's in my collection is the 10cent adventure and Action Comics #800 and I really didn't care for either. #800 is a nice retrospective though, if you don't have it you can probably get it for about 5 bucks.
