At this point the only way they could let me down if it turned out it was all for nothing, like they did with Lost - so many secrets, so many plot twists etc and as it turned out, there was nothing but "hey, this seems cool, let's throw it in to mess with people" behind it.

Yeah, I'm with you. It will take a lot for them to completely screw the story up now. Even if there isn't a big payoff like they did with Lost, they at least give you satisfying bread crumbs that actually lead to something along the way. Lost never resolved anything.
