I like a lot of dark stuff, a lot of crime drama. I'm currently catching up with a British series, Red Riding, from 2009, based on the novels by David Peace, on AmzPrime. Peace's books and the tv series are fictionalized accounts of police investigations into crimes against women and children from the mid-'70s to the '80s, set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire Ripper murders. The stories focus on corruption in the Yorkshire police department, seen through the lens of a news journalist, police detectives, and a lawyer who all play a part in the investigation into the abduction, murder and sexual assault of women and children in Yorkshire, possibly covered up by police officials in the pockets of organized crime. Dark and depressing, for sure, but that's usually most of my viewing material.

My next choice. "Something that doesn't feel like prestige TV" is my main criterion these days. Now we're going to see if it meets my other demand, "not as stupid as Black Mirror."

Watching Invader Zim all the way through for the very first time. I though it was cringe growing up. Boy, was I wrong. It has been very nice to have a new-to-me classic Nickelodeon show to watch. Can't believe something this popular got cancelled so early, but Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents (which both started great) are on like Season 30 now. Then again, that was the start of the downfall of Nick, and I'd have rather Zim go out on a high note and stand the test of time than be butchered to death like those other two properties.

I thought it was pretty good, she hated it. We are now trying to watch Utopia, which I tried watching when it came out and found it a bit tryhard, a stupid London hipster's idea of a "well wicked" TV show. A show that Nathan Barley would produce or something. Unfortunately she seems to like it.

I wanted "something different" so we tried a new German espionage thriller set in the 1950s about the tug of war between the Gehlen network and the less bad post-Nazi west German secret service. Of course there's a girlboss caught in the middle.

I don't know what I expected but it was really ****ing tedious. Extremely on the nose and bland.
