Default Overated Films

There are many films that seem to be regarded as classics yet I have no idea why. So what films do you think are overated and state why you think they are.

#1. The Searchers.

This is usually quoted as being the finest Western ever made with both Spielberg and Scorsese eulogising over the superb framing, the seemingly simplistic but classic story of one man's search for divinity and the performances.

No it's boring as fuck. It's inherently racist. John Wayne is as wooden as ever and I would argue that it's near impossible to not make a good looking film considering the huge canvas of Utah. I don't like any of the characters either. There is no denying that it has been influential but that still doesn't mean that I should enjoy it.

Yeah, I didn't like it that much. John Wayne was in far better films.

#2 FIGHT CLUB

Grrr WAAAaaahhhh i have to work at some job i don't like to make ends meet and pay off my debts. it's not fair it's impeding my christ given right to be special and unique. working for the man makes you a slave so be a slave to your ego instead and just do what you want, when you want, how you want, but don't tell anyone or they'll call you on being a 30 something trapped in adolescence and lacking the balls necessary to take that next step closer to death and recognizing that what you do to get by doesn't define who you are.

then again it's far simpler to just keep having hissy fits to the point of becoming schizo so you can start a cult and be the boss instead of actually answering to a boss. people are too special to have to pay for anything, money is a natural resource poor people are being 'robbed' of... idealistic hypocrisy at it's finest.

Not a lot of highly praised movies that I hate.

But I do have to say Natural Born Killers is without a doubt the most awful film to ever gain a cult following.

And The Piano, Moulin Rouge, Shakesphere in Love, Out of Africa, Chocolat and Erin Brocavich are the worst films to ever get an Oscar nod for best picture.

I love that film and it's indeed my favorite film.

I think you missed the point of the film completely.

No one is denying that Wayne's character is racist, and Ford obviously dosen't depict his racism in a very positive light. He's meant to be an anti-hero, rather than a hero. It may be Wayne's best role, it's like a subtle parody of a John Wayne role.

Obviously not everyone is gonna agree.

And if everyone does it's probably not overrated.

I'm sick of all these stupid posers praising Dark Knight and calling themselves "huge Batman fans" when they've only seen one movie. Fuck off stupid scenesters, go pretend to be something else.
