Every person I've showed this movie to has loved it. It's good for guys and girls, it's funny it's vintage and really makes you feel good. I don't think many people really watched it when it was released in 1998.

Forget about Jar Jar and some of the cheesier moments and you are left with a mildly good Star Wars film. I say it's underrated because most people forget the amazing cinemetography and music in the climatic duel with Darth Maul.

Unfortunetly, this was for me the last Star Wars movie that actually felt a bit like Star Wars.

Jar Jar Binks ruined the Phantom Menace for me. R2D2 was supposedly the 'childish' character, there was no need to bring in some anthropomorphic amphibian. i think Lucas moved away too far from the character development and careful plot construction that was present throughout episodes IV-VI. it wasn't so bad in episode I but by III it was almost entirely special effects that made up the movie (and the effort to tie-in to IV was TERRIBLE).

i still don't hate any of them but if i had to pick it would most certainly be IV-VI, more specifically the Empire Strikes Back.

I don't hate any of the Star Wars movies either. I actually think Revenge was pretty good and I actually did like the tie ins to the later films. The guy that plays Darth still sucks, but at least Darth is actually badass in that movie, compared to the annoying brat he was in I & II.

You know it actually does make since that a sinister villian like Darth Vader would start out as an angsty emo kid.

1984

This is the greatest filmed interpretation of the infamous mutiny of the HMS Bounty crew that took place in the south Pacific in 1789. Classic story, apparently the most historically accurate, beautifully shot, great ensemble cast (Laurence Olivier's last role I think and early minor roles for Liam Neeson and Danny Day Lewis among others) and a soundtrack by Vangelis. So THERE

eh, i just really didn't like how Padme dies, it seems so melodramatic. and the whole Anakin going over to the dark side thing was pretty much like "we're going to beat this into the audience's heads and not leave anything open for questioning." i would kinda rather have them left it open ended than try to fit the pieces together like that.

My plan for the prequels:

Anakin is much older is Episode 1 and is already being trained by the counsil. Smoothly slide in some bad character traits but only just so.

In Episode II, Anakin turns to the Dark Side and the beginnings of the Empire take shape... but not all at once. Jedi are declared outlaws at the end of the film.

In Episode III, the Empire has been fully approved by the senate, the old republic is crumbling and Darth Vader is hunting down every last Jedi.

I personally think that would have been much cooler.

Watched this with a friend a while ago. It's the original to the American remake "Quarantine". I found it pretty enjoyable, didn't scare me as much as I thought it would, but as far as a compelling story told on a frugal budget, you can't go wrong. Great movie for a Saturday night when you're broke.

Cool, I totally forgot about this but I really did like it. I can't have watched it in 1998, but I was pretty young. Definitely going to get this out again.

William Friedkin (The French Connection) goes to 80's neon soaked L.A and gives us Willem Dafoe in bad ass mode, one hell of a car chase and hard boiled dialogue. Damn I may watch this tonight now
