I also want to know how in the hell ANYONE is alive right now. I mean the f*cking island blows up and yet... it didn't, and everyone gets nothing more than a bad headache.

But whatever, it's not any less bizarre than what you normally get from Lost.

Ben got onto the submarine with his father, as did Ethan and his mother. That's why they are alive, because they weren't there for the blast.

Interesting logic here - the survivors lives seem much better off without the influence of Jacob. I think i'm starting to side with the MIB here.

boo boo 03-10-2010 12:44 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot all about the time traveling back into the 70s aspect, confusing stuff if you don't have your head in the right place.

And yeah, despite all the build up on this Fake Locke being the bad guy, he has a pretty damn good point. Jacob is a f*cking assh*le.

Though not everyone is better off in the sideways timeline, like Jin and Kate.

Not sure if this is true. I think it will become more clear as the season goes on, but beyond not being trapped on an island, life is not much better for many of the characters.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-10-2010 01:23 PM

Just had a thought...

Remember Jacob's Cabin? I'm betting it wasn't Jacob's Cabin, but the MIB's prison. A prison he could only leave as the black smoke. The black powder surrounding it wasn't to keep the MIB out, but to keep him in in some sense. That would only be logically if we're to assume ghost-Christian was MIB.

Also Charlie is still hooked on heroin and suicidal. At least on the island he got clean, and at least for a little while hooked up with a hot Australian chick, even though he died he still lived a better life on the island.

And also Sawyer committed a murder in sydney, I dont know if that still happens in the sideways timeline but if it did then he may eventually get caught.

Jacob probably had the best of intentions, sometimes the island improves the lives of people, and other times it doesnt, it depends on the fates people choose for themselves.

And again while on the island.

Yeah, but nobody gives a sh*t about the people he killed on the island. The others are even more disposable than Storm Troopers.

Or do you mean when he killed Locke's dad?

jayfin3 03-11-2010 03:25 PM

That was my second favorite episode of the season so far. After the Lighthouse.

Pros:
-Ben/Locke interaction in the teachers lounge in alternate reality-this scene practically made the whole episode. Two of the best actors/characters on the show. Short as it was, this scene was gold.
-Richard unhinged? I liked it.
-Ben chooses Alex over power in the alternate reality. It was well played out.
-Ben's father DID work for the Dharma in alternate reality? And then left? Wow.
-No Kate!!!

Cons
-Awkward/corny scene in library where Alex tells Ben of Principals affair...bleh
-Sun gets screen time, but almost no lines! Wtf...
-Submarine scene. It was stupid.

Yes. That moment was pivotal because of Locke's dad's significance in Sawyer's life. Which begs another question: what is alternate Locke's relationship with his father like, if there even is one?

We knew this. The detonation of the bomb only reset everything from that point on. Ben and his dad still would have left along with the rest of the Dharma initiative after Dr. Chang ordered them off the island.

I'd assume he still stole his kidney and later caused his paralysis - but without Jacob's influence he and Helen never broke up.

not necessarily. he still has power over the principal because he can reveal the scandal, even after alex has been admitted to yale or wherever she was going. this was inferred from the last scene in the principals office when ben got out of monitoring detention.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-17-2010 03:34 PM

^ True, but I believe we as the audience are just supposed to leave it there as Ben's redemption.

Bricks will be shat. I literally squealed like a girl when they announced that the next episode would be about Richard.

This series needs more Desmond

Yeah, not enough Desmond at all so far this season, though how much do you want to bet he was what was behind the locked door on the sub.

boo boo 03-18-2010 01:07 PM

The sideways timeline is full of really out there coincidences. Alex ends up being one of Ben's students, Locke and Arzt just happen to be fellow teachers at the same school Ben teaches at. Sawyer and Miles both end up being cops AND end up being partners, and Sawyer just happens to run into Kate.

I swear, only Lost can get away with this stuff.

I'm also interested in how this time shift lifted Hurley's curse, what is the curse all about? And why are they connected to the numbers? That is one of the questions that has really been bugging me.

Very excited to see Richard get his own flashback, I just hope they don't pull the same dirty trick that they did with Daniel and kill him off in that very episode.

I also hope that Desmond comes back soon, and that Lapidus gets an episode.

Yeah I'd like Lapidus get his own episode.
Seems like he's been on the fringe of it for far too long, so much so I forget about him a lot.

God I hope so

I'll be interested to see his flash forward/alternate future thing.
It seems like with the ones shown so far that they all end up meeting each other anyway, I don't see why he wouldn't be there.

OceanAndSilence 03-19-2010 03:30 AM

desmond is actually my favourite character in lost, so I hope he gets some more screentime soon.

My guess is that the "curse" was caused directly by Jacob in order to manipulate Hurley onto the island.

James 03-19-2010 05:26 PM

It's official after the episode I just watched Charlotte is the hottest cast member of Lost.

I gotta agree, redheads ftw.

Yeah, if you think all ginger chicks look like Rocky Dennis then all I can say is it's awfully sad for you to have cataracts at such a young age.

Hell, you couldn't even find a bad picture of her, which would have made for a more effective troll. You fail.

Let us all keep in mind that this is clearly a very serious topic.

Eh, Cavemen's attitude still bugs me. And that was a pretty weak troll, I think he's losing his touch.

I thought it was pretty funny.

A joke usually has to have some hint of truth in it to be funny, I don't think she looks like Rocky Dennis hence I don't think it's funny.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-19-2010 08:13 PM

I laughed at the fact that he pulled that reference out of his ass, I think she's quite attractive myself but a Rocky Dennis reference always gets me.

caveman is right, Charlotte is rather neanderthalesque. there are far more attractive characters in the show.
