10 Video Games That Changed My Life

Pretty self-explanatory and i don't feel like doing a silly write-up so here goes:

10.Animal Crossing-Gamecube
http://animalcrossingrevolution.goog...97614-full.jpg
Moat of the video games I've gotten are because i played them at one of my friend's house first and got hooked. This is the reaosn I got a Gamecube. How can one love not love a game in which the gameplay is based off paying off your debt? The harsh reality is pretty much wasted though, as the cuteness of the game overtook me. Doing favors for animals ao they would paint my house. Grabbing clothes from The dump and Lost & Found. Digging up fossils. All pastimes that never got old.
http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-...screenshot.jpg
Games that have enough things to keep you interested enough to play for hours in one sitting are few and far-between, but it never ceased to amaze me with all the features to keep you occupied. My favorite activities ranging from fishing, waiting for that crazy sailor to wash up on the beach, and shooting the shit with the local penguin. The endless customization really raised the standards for me when it came to video games. i mean what other video games are there where you have the ability to design you're own clothes? You can even time travel! You like Walruses? It's got those. It's got everything you coud possibly want. It even has good music. You can listen to the local indie star,K.K. Slider, serenade you while the credits roll. I mean how can you not like the music of someone who cites Elliott Smith and Lassie as influences?

Overall, this game spretty much perfect.

But FaSho How Did It Change Your Life?
Well, kids, anyone who plays this game will have a better understanding of what it's liek to live on your own. Also, it changed the way i look and games, especially ones with talking animals.

Astronomer 07-02-2009 12:17 AM

I've always wanted to play that game! But haven't had the chance yet. Anyway, fun idea, I look forward to the rest of this thread :)

Darkest Hour 07-02-2009 02:39 AM

that game was poo. I rented it once. I look forward to seeing your next ones though.

Piss Me Off 07-02-2009 05:18 AM

The most stupidly addictive game ever. You're paying off mortgages for god sakes! It's brilliant though.

It's a very long term type of game. Renting it gives you no sense of what's enjoyable about it.

boo boo 07-02-2009 09:26 AM

Hey Fasho, what do you think of the Harvest Moon series?

Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA is so damn addictive, I can't get enough of it.

You're talking to an ADD afflicted next gen gamer who wouldn't know fun if it bit him in the rear.

It's a lost cause.

i remember playing this very game with my 12 year old cousin on New Years Eve. it was definately enjoyable and addicitve, but i hated how the ****ing sreen had to shift while you moved. gaaahhhh >_< i wish they could've just made the camera follow you.

I think that actually makes the gameplay easier. Having the whole forest broken down into little squares like that makes it easier to systematically search for things. If the camera just followed you it would be incredibly hard to keep track of which trees you've shaken or which rocks you've smacked, plus it would presumably make it harder to "reset" fish or bugs that had escaped you in a given area.

i see what you mean, but it's still a bit of a pet peeve of mine. just saying.

I guess it's just what you're used to. For me it reminded me of Legend of Zelda, which was one of my favorite games as a kid, so it brought back some nostalgic memories too. :)

I liked this game also, but I mean, it's basically an offline mmo with freakin' animals, how did this change you?

that came off jerkish, when I didn't want it to. I'm just curious and enjoy getting insight on other gamers opinions.

S_Shinji 07-06-2009 11:49 AM

Animal Crossing was fun for like a month, then it started to feel like I was doing the same routine EVERY day >_<

boo boo 07-12-2009 01:36 AM

My top 10 video games.

Super Mario Bros 3 (NES): In my opinion the best Mario game ever. World, 64 and Galaxy were all masterpieces in their own right, but for some reason this one still has the most replay value of any of them.

Link to the Past (SNES): My first Zelda game, and the first game I played that truly required a lot of time, effort and strategic planning. Even today, there's still a lot of payoff in this game, there's so much to explore, even after nearly 20 years of play, you still might find something new.

Ocarina of Time (N64): One thing I want to accomplish before I die is to finally beat that f*cking water temple.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Genesis): Sonic 3 and S&K were great on their own but to get the best Sonic experience you have to play the combined game. By far Sonic's finest moment.

Star Fox 64 (N64): I'm so bummed I lost my cartridge, I've played this game so many f*cking times, it probably disintegrated.

NBA Jam (Genesis): Simple, fun and easy to pick up and play with a friend. What a sports game should be.

Street Fighter 2 (Arcade, SNES): Super Street Fighter 2 is the best version IMO.

Harvest Moon, Friends of Mineral Town (GBA): The kinda game you don't expext to be a lot of fun, turns out to be the most addictive damn game ever.

Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii): I'm sorry tourney f@gs, I prefer this one to Melee. A big part of it isn't just the gameplay, it's the nostalgia overload. I mean Mario and Sonic in the same game? Hell yeah. This game made me feel like a 9 year old kid again.

Super Mario Galaxy (Wii): Not since SMB3 did a Mario game blow me away quite like this did. It's replay value may not be insanely high once you get all the stars, but for those first 242 stars it's one hell of a ride.

Honorable mentions:
Sonic 2 (Genesis)
Goldeneye 007 (N64)
Super Mario World (SNES)
Yoshi's Island (SNES)
Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)
Mario Kart: Double Dash (GC)
Kirby Superstar (SNES)
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GC)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)
Super Mario 64 (N64)
WWF No Mercy (N64)
Pikmin 2 (GC)
The Wind Waker (GC)
Pokemon Red & Blue (GBA)
Guitar Hero series (PS2, Wii)

And too many others to think of.

Is it just me or is the water temple the hardest level in ALL zelda games?
I gave up Ocarina of Time for a month when I got there.
I gave up Majora's Mask for six months when I got there.
I gave up Twilight Princess over a year ago when I got there and have yet to try and attempt it again.

boo boo 07-12-2009 01:49 AM

Water levels are generally the most difficult level in any game.

Most especially the Sonic and Mega Man series.

gunnels 07-12-2009 01:52 AM

Oh yeah, I was playing Megaman 8 yesterday.
Screw his inability to float.

boo boo 07-12-2009 02:06 AM

Worst thing about Mega Man is how he jumps very high underwater, which would be a cool thing if touching the spike covered ceiling didn't mean instant death.

Poor Sonic though, Mario and Kirby can breath and swim underwater, Link can swim but not breath, Mega Man can breath but not swim.

Sonic can't do either, and he's so slow. There's nothing more terrifying than playing a water level in a Sonic game and hearing that dreaded drowning music.

"F*CK WHERE'S A BUBBLE? I NEED A F*CKING BUBBLE OR I'M GONNA DIE!!!"

Miltamec Soundsquinaez 07-12-2009 02:10 AM

1. Super Tecmo Bowl
2. Tetris
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Mega Man 5
5. Mike Tyson's Punchout
6. R.C. Pro Am
7. 3D World Runner
8. Dr. Mario
9. Super Mario Bros
10. Castlevania 3

I'm an NES guy, I never could figure out Legend of Zelda. I mean, I couldn't figure out the goal of the game, and also how anyone, even someone with no other means of entertainment, could possibly enjoy it.

boo boo 07-12-2009 02:20 AM

The fun of the original Zelda was the exploration involved, figuring out what to do on your own, trial and error, as well as coming up with strategies to solve puzzles.

Same goes for the Metroid series.

Thank god I'm not alone on that one, very underrated and proof that a 3D Sonic game can be good.

But what really makes the game great is the chao garden. Ridiculously addictive.

And I forgot about the Warioware series, great stuff, it's one of those concepts that doesn't sound too great when written on paper, you have to play it to truly understand what makes it fun.

gunnels 07-12-2009 02:34 AM

I ordered a fecking guidebook over the internet and paid for it with my own money so I could find out how to breed an evil chao.
Of course I ordered the wrong book so it was a waste of money. :(
But, that was when I was little kid and before I realized the power of google.

The water levels in Mario games drive me nuts, he's always so hard to control.

Double X 07-12-2009 01:34 PM

Animal Crossing!! I had so many fights with Mr. Resetti so I could win that gambling game.

Really? I've never had a problem with Mario's water levels, he is a bit more difficult to control but that's because it's meant to resemble underwater physics, but it's never been a fustration for me except for when I'm at the bottom of a lake and my air is running out, and I can't swim fast enough to the surface.

Most people hate water levels but I love them, they add some much needed variety to the game and also a bit of a challenge.

One of my favorite games is Ecco the Dolphin for the Genesis, which is nothing but water levels.

Dr.Seussicide 07-13-2009 08:32 AM

1. Final Fantasy 9

Easily my all time favourite...storyline and characters were the most amazing than I have ever seen in a video game... not to mention the game that got me into RPG's. A remake for the ps3 is a must I think. The environments, bosses, side quests... everything was done masterfully. Most influential game for me personally.

2. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3. Final Fantasy 7
4. Breath of Fire 4
5. Xenogears
6. Pokemon: Yellow Version
7. Chrono Cross
8. Resident Evil 4
9. Warcraft: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne
10. Shinobi

boo boo 07-13-2009 08:35 AM

Oh yes, the Shinobi series, pure class.

Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis) is one tough ass game.

Dr.Seussicide 07-13-2009 08:39 AM

NBA Jam (sega)

It helped me realize I would never play real basketball and would never be able to use the Clinton head in real life, and never actually dunk from half court. :(

I have many fond childhood memories with that game.

To me it embodies everything a sports video game should be. Simple, fun and not the least bit realistic.

Now if real basketball had people jumping 20 feet in the air, performing mid air front flips and driving flaming basketballs into the goal. I would be more of a fan.
