^ It's from the 60s, psychological horror/thriller in a gothic setting, based on a novel. I'm not sure if it's a British or American film, although the lead actress and the director are British. The director may not be that universally known to general public, but the actress certainly is.

So, since I don't know if anyone has even tried to guess this, I will give more hints.

The lead actress is Deborah Kerr, she plays a governess. This film was probably a big influence on Amenábar's The Others. So, it's a ghost story..., or is it? There was an unofficial 'prequel' in terms of a story line in 1971 with Marlon Brando as the lead.

The novella this film was based on was originally published in 1898. So, now I've said almost everything except for the name of the film and the name of the novella (their names are not the same btw)

Better late than never. Although I probably gave more hints than was needed.

Now it's your turn to post a picture.

Classic British Horror film. Dated definitely but a genre classic and an inspiration for George A Romero (of the dead series).
