That's an absolute classic. I loved the NIMH books; such quality storytelling.

storymilo 10-22-2009 07:12 PM

Wow I didn't even know there were books...

This movie is very different from Spirited Away, but still great. Not your normal "robot from space" story, this one is endearing and still not sappy. Vin Diesel's best performance comes in this movie, as only a few grunts from the robot. I suggest you watch this film if you haven't seen it. 9/10

one of my favorites, so underrated and really a beautiful movie

also

The Secret of NIHM, glad you reminded me about that storymilo
Toy Story
The Simpsons Movie(yeah, **** you)
An American Tail
Space Jam (yeah, the Nostalgia Critic may have badmouthed it, but it's still one of my favorites)
Mulan

i'll add more later but i gotta remember them first, hehe

gunnels 11-22-2009 02:39 AM

Spirited Away is where it's at.

I loved that one. But I think they're all great actually (I've watched them all too:o:) You've probably heard of The Spoony Experiment, not if not he's this guy who does kind of the same thing but with games as well as movies.

@jackhammer- I love the Triplets of Bellville:) And Ghost In A Shell and A Scanner Darkly are both movies on my To Watch list

Yeah, I love that guy, I know everybody tries to do the angry nerd thing these days, but he does it very well, he's both smart and funny and his meltdowns are always fun to watch.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that Sonic cartoon was inferior to the saturday morning one.

The saturday morning one had an actual plot that grew more complex over time, compared to most cartoons where every episode was just a different whacky adventure, and the characters were actually well developed, Sonic's relationship with Tails, his relationship with Sally, Snively's relationship with Robotnik, etc. Sonic seemed to have a real fleshed out personality and wasn't just mugging and spouting catchphrases like the other cartoon, and instead of being a total retard (like the other cartoon), Robotnik was actually a scary badass and a competent antagonist.

People might hate it because it's worshiped by furries everywhere or because "it's not true to the games" or some stupid sh*t like that, but it really was a great kids show, it had an environmentalist message but it was surprisingly subtle about it, it never seemed too preachy. It had actual effort and care put into it. It's a shame it was canceled, especially when there was an unresolved cliffhanger from the last season, that pissed me off so bad when I was a kid.

I watched all the old episodes on Youtube a while back and I still enjoyed it.

But yeah, the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on the other hand..... it seemed like the creative process behind that show pretty much consisted of a bunch of dudes stoned out of their minds while watching old Warner Bros cartoons, writing down every random thought until they had a half hour's worth of content for an episode.

The pumpkin rant had me in stitches.

The most successful animated movie ever (and in top ten for all movies). This still contains all the magic, some great animation that still holds up today.

Really?

Even though it has a great voice cast and the animation has a really cool John Kricfalusi-esque style to it, from the trailer I seen, it didn't look terribly funny.

Yeah, man. I had my doubts, too. But it's worth renting.

Don't understand the love for this one (I think it's even included on some top 100 sci-fi films list??), isn't it kinda like King Kong only with a robot? Anyhoo, I thought it was too predictable and kinda boring. :\

My favorite would have to be Finding Nemo, the best story, best direction and story development, the funniest (probably Ellen Degeneres' finest moments) and by far the best list of supporting characters of any animated film I've seen with a pretty good message behind it. Nothing else is as consistently good as this film (for example, there's a pretty obvious disparity between the first 40 minutes of Wall-e, which are brilliant, and the rest of the film).

So yeah, Nemo all the way.

As far as classical animation goes, Princess Mononoke was the most impressive but I haven't seen it in a while.
