In addition to the animation being excellent. What made it a great movie was how well the story and characters were developed, how faithful it was to the time setting and all the cool sci fi references and parodies of 50s American culture.

Overall a fantastic film.

My favorite would have to be Finding Nemo, the best story, best direction and story development, the funniest (probably Ellen Degeneres' finest moments) and by far the best list of supporting characters of any animated film I've seen with a pretty good message behind it. Nothing else is as consistently good as this film (for example, there's a pretty obvious disparity between the first 40 minutes of Wall-e, which are brilliant, and the rest of the film).

So yeah, Nemo all the way.
Blah, Wall-E is superior to Finding Nemo. The second half of Wall-E is still great, even if it's not as good as the first.

As far as track record goes, nobody beats Pixar. They have yet to make a mediocre film (that's right, I liked Cars, suck me).

Quote:

As far as classical animation goes, Princess Mononoke was the most impressive but I haven't seen it in a while.
Yeah if we're talking technical chops no one beats Miyazaki. Spirited Away is probably his best on a technical level. Though Mononoke isn't far behind, the opening scene with the boar demon and snakes was absolutely jaw dropping.

I haven't seen this since I was a kid. But goddamn, is it epic.

boo boo 12-06-2009 08:19 PM

I haven't seen it but I'm a fan of both Bakshi and Frazetta so I dunno why I haven't.

I saw that in junior high and can't remember a single thing about it. That's not usually a good sign for me.

well this little boy remembers it being epic as fuck

Holy f*ck.

That was crazy, but awesome. Because of the animation style I kept waiting for the California Raisins and the Noid to show up but they never came.

EDIT: Holy sh*t, I looked it up, turned out the Raisins and the Noid were created by the same guy who did this movie.

Did I already ask if everyone was ready for The Princess and the Frog?

boo boo 12-09-2009 01:44 AM

Disney really lost the plot with their last few cell animated films, this does look like a return to form for Disney though, and I hope it's successful enough to bring traditional animation back to the big screen.

I'm excited for it.
My suitemate's confused that she's black.
But there's a Native American and a Chinese one and an Arabic one.
WHERE THE HELL ARE THE LATINAS?!

Well that chick from Hunchback of Notre Dame was Spanish.

Has anyone else seen Fantastic Mr. Fox yet? I enjoyed it, and it had a very quirky style, but I wouldn't put it up there with my favorites. I'd be interested to know what other people think.

Flower Child 12-11-2009 05:44 PM

When I was a kid this was the only movie that existed to me. I still watch the hell out of it.

HA HA HA Well looky here... Big man O'Malley is back in his alley. C'mon down here daddy!

The best scene in a Disney movie in history. I would hate to think how many times I would stop and rewind this part

Aladdin is actually Persian, so not Arab (changed by Disney for political messages).
But what the hell, more for us ... the magical Arabian nights.

Arya Stark 12-11-2009 09:04 PM

Okay but that's still not a Latina.

Considering that she is Hawaiian that would be a big no.

Well I know, but we already considered Persian=Arabic.

Latinas have to go with either Pocahontas or Lilo ... sorry.

Yes, but Persians and Arabs come from the same general area whereas Latinos and Hawaiians come from places separated by thousands of miles of ocean.

NumberNineDream 12-11-2009 09:48 PM

Well I know ... but let us be a bit racist, and just judge them on their color, I say.

Well, I'm part latino by some definitions I guess, and my complexion is much lighter than a Hawaiian. But if you're looking for Disney movies with latinos, the Emperor's New Groove is probably the closest thing.

I guess it can be the closest ... tho there's no women in that movie, nor the sequel ...

Latinas should have to wait for the series to get:

Really? I didn't know that. It's actually one of the few Disney movies I haven't seen.

NumberNineDream 12-11-2009 10:47 PM

I only watch the series on the Disney channel, cause it's one of the rare ones that has some sense of humor. So was searching for Malina in the movie profile and it seems she was only added as a love interest in the series.

Now thinking about it, she doesn't really have a role in the series, cause they don't fall in love or even get closer. I guess little girls wanted to identify with someone, or something like that.

Yes there's a woman, it's the evil woman who turns Cusco into a llama. And, since she becomes queen for a while, she's technically royalty as well. There you are!
