PS3 vs Xbox.

Debate that occurs quite a lot, apologies if there's already a thread on this, I searched and couldn't find one.

Anyway, I had a PS1, loved it as a child. PS2 equally, then I got a PS3.. Didn't warm to it, I got an Xbox and never really got back into the whole gaming thing and my Xbox broke, so I went back to PS3.

But now I've gone back to Xbox because there was a great deal for an elite with games and now I can't get enough of it.

Even when I owned a PS3 I conceded Xbox's were better.

What do you all prefer and why?

I think PS3 is better due to free online, better reliability, and (in my opinion) better exclusive titles. A lot of people prefer Xbox's online multiplayer, but I think as a whole, the PS3 is the best option for the average gamer.

I haven't played a PS3 to be fair, but if I was gonna buy one it would be a 360. One big reason is for it's Xbox Live Arcade feature.

Sure it's prone to malfunction and a lot of it's games are also for the PC.

But by comparison, the PS3 still dosen't have a lot of games that seem terribly interesting to me, at least those that are exclusives and aren't retreads of older Sony franchises.

What's wrong with retreading an old franchise? It's about all Nintendo is capable of.

Pretty much what he said except the whole free online doesn't matter much.

I've had both systems and I prefer the Ps3 not only for the games, but for the fact that it really does become the center of your media setup because you can do so much with it. Movie watching has never been easier than plugging my hard drive into the Ps3 and clicking on a file.

Yeah the free online factor for the PS3 never bothered me. If you're too cheap to pay £40 a year then what can I say?

But the online play on the PS3 is terrible, Xbox has a more thriving online community.

I much prefer the Xbox after a lot of switching. I have my iPod constantly plugged in so I can listen to my own music. Last FM if I want a bit of variety. Sky Player. Facebook (Even though it's piss poor it can still be handy.)

Yeah but those are franchises I actually care about.

But ok ok.

Some PS3 exclusives that look good to me.

Little Big Planet
Uncharted
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
God of War III..... but I haven't even played I or II, and honesty I'd rather play them first.

Well the Sony fanboys could say the same thing about Nintendo franchises, so that's really a neverending, purely opinionated argument.

Playing your music during games is something the Ps3 is missing, but unless I'm playing a sports game I prefer to listen to the actual ingame music (I guess the fact that i have an ipod dock connected to my surround sound system doesn't hurt.) Just makes the experience more immersive for me. Especially if I'm playing a FPS.

I'll never understand how people can focus on shooting something or someone when you can't hear them what's going on in the game world.

The online community on Ps3 seems like its thriving to me, but I've only owned a Ps3 for a couple of years so I can't say how it was earlier.

I think I know what you mean when you say that though b/c the online community on xbox is way more organized. I often find myself wondering why the Ps3 doesn't have a system (not one I can find anyway) of reporting people for misconduct, or why do I have to go to messages to accept an invite but those are minor annoyances that don't ruin the experience for me.

I'm with you there, I'm not sure how people can do it. I use to try and listen to music while playing Counter-Strike and just ended up sucking more than I did without the music. My brother's roommate use to listen to Drum and Bass while grinding in World of Warcraft. His reasoning was the repetitiveness of the music worked well with blocking out the fact he was doing the same exact thing for hours on end.
