Harry Potter vs Twilight
Ok, I really hate this kind of threads, but since there already is a Harry Potter vs LOTR thread, due to popularity of the Twilight series and the similarity of Harry Potter and Twilight freaks, I think that currently this thread makes more sense. In my opinion both Harry Potter and Twilight movies suck, and the Twilight books suck, while the Harry Potter books are ok, so I would have to say Harry Potter.

Twilight, I've never taken an interest in Harry Potter.

N/A
Not comparable imo |
"Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."
- Stephen King |
^ My friend read me that quote once, it truly made me happy. Meyer is the new Paolo Cuelho *double boak*
|
Mate I'm being serious. I like Twilight far better than Harry Potter. I suppose I never really gave HP a chance but still. I prefer Twilight.
|
You'll just never understand.....sigh
I picked Harry Potter, because it's better. |
The Harry Potter books have inspired a generation of youth to actually attempt reading and have been loved by both young and old. Twilight is directed to a very select niche of teenage girls or women who possess the mental capacity of a teenage girl.
|
^ Less teenage more 12-15 year-old Britney wanabes.
|
Have you guys actually read the Twilight books? I don't like them but from what I've read they're not as bad as you would expect from seeing their fans.
|
I must confess I have not read them nor have any desire to. A series like that is driven for a very specific audience that I do not fall under, therefore I'm left sort of ostracized from what other fans are supposedly receiving. Not that I'm complaining, if I want to read about Vampires there's plenty of fiction out there, shit I've written my own chronicles with White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade books. I suppose what I'm getting at is that if I want to enjoy some good blood sucking romance I don't need a watered down version written by a fucking Morman.

C'mon guys? Why the Harry Potter hate? I haven't read the books but at least the first few movies were really good kids films.
I have only seen parts of Twilight, but that was painful enough. Quote:
I am of course, talking about real vampires. Like Bela Legosi or Christopher Lee's Dracula or Count Orlok or Alucard from Helsing or Alucard from Castlevania or Keifer Sutherland in Lost Boys or Chris Surrandon in Fright Night... Or The Count from Sesame Street. Those are f*cking vampires, not that pretty boy emo kid. |
I just prefer zombies/werewolves/unicorns

i have to say i've never read twilight, but i saw the first movie... and hey guess what - it sucked! so harry potter rules the entire world. the end. |
Harry Potter is always going to win in my mind. It's just way better than anything else ever pretty much. Comon now...
P.S. What this forum really needs is a Twilight vs. LOTR poll...alot more fair and balanced I'd say. Though South Park vs. Narnia might be interesting too. >< |
^ I'd go with South Park v/s Passion of the Christ.

... you do it. >< |
Don't want my name on a poll thread. I think Seuss will rise to the occasion very beautifully.
|
He needs to hurry up and get on then. South Parks goin down. :bringit:

But HP is all about the books, and the early books were great children's books. It's interesting to see how the tone and subject matter completely change of the course of the series, but I think the quality of the story telling remained for the most part. The biggest problem with how the books transformed was that her world was designed to be whimsical and quirky, and when it needs to be dark the gaps in logic are suddenly glaring. Anyway, I haven't read Twilight but I'm willing to bet that it will be dead and buried long before people forget about Harry Potter. |
Bahahaha who would compare the literature of J.K. Rowling to Stephanie Meyer? It's like comparing calculus with playdough. Harry Potter hands down.
|
I only ever thought of suicide once, after watching Twilight. -_-
|
I started reading twilight and it was too pathetic, so I stopped. I have read Harry Potter numerous times and still sometimes read it. I think that Harry Potter movies aren't as nearly as good as the books, but better than twilight, that's for sure.

I've heard from a few book geeks that the Twilight is actually a well written story, and that's why they were disapointed with the film. Which is why I'm going to read the books after I've seen the films! I ofcourse haven't read Twilight or Harry Potter, nor have I seen the films of HP. Maybe I'm biased but I'm not going to deny the fact that I did thoroughly enjoy Twilight.

I would read Harry Potter, it's just finding the motivation to be honest.
|
Once you get into it, it will be hard to let go of it, trust me. It's that kind of book :)
|
|
Well that was a pretty inacurate read on the twilight fans...
|
eh, it was funny.

I would have tons of respect for Stephenie Meyer if she actually did something like this. |
