An even fatter guitarist than Leslie West.

And music.

Shane Lane makes music that sounds like something made for a cheesy 80s jazzersize video or something, I don't like it.

Jack White IMO, is a good guitarist, you can't call yourself a rock n roll fan and discredit someone for playing sloppy and not given a sh*t about how in tune their guitar is, because a lot of times Page didn't either. White makes amazing riffs and has this killer, nasty tone that I love.

Shawn Lane is a technical genius, indeed, but his music doesn't leave any impression on me at all, I have no real opinion of it except that I think Powers of Ten had the cheesiest production I've ever heard in my life.

Page was at least in tune and great in the studio.

I won't argue that White isn't in Page's league (nor is The Edge, though I think he also deserves more credit than he gets from people) but there's a lot of things that makes him one of the most interesting guitarists from the past decade.

Skill isn't enough to get my attention, people can go on about Lane's technique, his "godly" tone and so on, but more often than not it just sounds like background music to me.

Urban constantly refers to me as a "muso", but I'm not a muso at all, while I do adore many musicians for their technical skill, they have to have energy to match.

The best way to put it is, Lane is all skill and no energy and White is no skill and all energy. I greatly prefer the latter.

EDIT: Probably the main reason I hate so much indie music is that it's no skill AND no energy.

Saying Shawn Lane has no energy in his playing is the most ignorant thing I've ever heard.

Making "emotional" faces is not what I'm talking about, I don't mean lack of energy as in his music isn't loud and fast, it's just that everything sounds mechanical to me, like it's too perfect and neat.

That's why I included the word "playing" in my post. You can't "play" a "retarded face".

The edge, out of place?

It was 3 opinions on the electric guitar, 3 different styles. Edge is a beliver in using effects, Jack White believes that effects ruin what playing the guitar is all about.

I can see why he was there, to give a different view on the electric guitar, although I would've preferred someone like Keith Richards.
