I guess the whole realistic and interesting characters thing in GOT would be great for that. I mean running a castle and the whole bitchiness in the kingdom and mixing with the royal court. That would be kinda cool alright. Bit I want to see hundreds dying as well, and feel the power of my orders as I send young men to battle. lol, maybe its just a guy/ girl thing.

Not really. I just find the character's stories more interesting than battles.

A good game of thrones war game like Total War would be good, but the real strength of Game of Thrones are the actual characters, the political intrigue and the alliances that people form with one another.

Exactly, alliances and political intrigue would be a plenty in a good strategy game.

But how would you create that in an actual war-game scenario, where troops, cavalry etc are far more dominant than individual characters?

Well, the characters that you would be made familiar with would be the ones with power, the rest would simply be pawns. It is done this way in every total war game. People like Robb Stark, Tyrion, Littlefinger, Stannis, Renly and all their associated women would all be incredibly important parts of the game in terms of faction relations. Bran Stark would be ruling Winterfell, Jon Snow would be on the wall, it is actually being discussed right now, the makings of a game like this.

An RPG what you are describing is different to an actual war game. Or are you thinking about something that could combine both with? A lot of RPG modules allow the players to formulate an actual wargame. Another alternative would be a strategy based board game, something like that could work, in fact there is one with cards and I've seen it for sale for some time now and it looks interesting.

We don't really get to see these massive battles in the series, imagine being able to control them. And also control the diplomatic relations.

medieval 2 total war, its pretty amazing. The characters are all still present, they are on the battle field, and in the diplomacy. Imagine having to make a deal with Stannis, and then having a battle with him. I think this would be a great move to make a game like this.

This is from the latest one Shogun 2 total war

It gets me excited thinking about this in relation to GOT, because this is the kind of warfare they would have been doing, cavalry, missile ( bows ) and dirty hand to hand.
