Yeah I can't really think of any other series besides Harry Potter that made me just want to jump into the next book. I read the first two Song of Fire and Ice books in two weeks, and the third in a little over 3 (I was also on vacation in Vancouver at the time). The fourth book is quite a bit different from the other three, but it comes right after a book of pure action so it's a necessary break, and the fifth book seems to be setting up the second half of the story, putting all the little pieces together for the 6th book to expand on, and the 7th book to wrap up.

If anyone has read the books, you'll know why I find this song so sad.

Blackwater guys!!!

For some reason, I can't help but love Cersei. She is so fucked up, and Lena plays her amazingly, if she doesnt win an Emmy for this, I'm calling bullshit.

She was great in this episode. The episode was flawless, basically how I imagined it in the books. Fair dews to the creators of this show, they hounded HBO for the budget to get the episode looking this good and by god did it pay off.

Just finished up the first book. Jon is easily my favourite character and he'll be the one I'll be rooting for if things get even more complicated. I'm thinking there might be other POVs given from the complete opposite side of the ones in the first book though so I probably shouldn't speak too quickly.

I also thought Bronn really stood out as a minor character and am hoping to see more from him.

And **** you, Joffrey. I immediately pictured him as that Australian Bieber, Cody Simpson, and that image stuck.

If he hasnt at least seen s1, it's no big deal as season 1 is almost word for word the same as the book.

Nope, I plan on watching the show after I read the books. I doubt the 6th book will be released by the time I finish the first 5, so I might start then. I'm kind of anal about separating books from TV/movies, but it looks like I might cave because of how long Martin takes to write the books. I do plan on watching it though.

A friend just told me this the other day and said that the second season turned him off the show a bit. How much do they stray from the book in the second season?

Exactly. Although there is something great about seeing the book come to life!

It strays a small bit. Most of the straying I can understand. What you have to take into account is:

1) The audience, sometimes the book doesn't translate as well on screen and things need to be changed to make it seem more plausible or for it to look better.

2) The budget, some changes need to be made because they simply cannot afford the vast scale of battles and scenes for, what is at the end of the day, a tv budget.

3) The amount of material in the book, they need to trim things down to fit everything into a 10 hour film of 10 episodes.
