I'm about 2/3 through A Feast for Crows. Not sure why so many people think it's the weak link of the series. I think all 4 so far have been pretty comparable. It almost seems like one big plot advancement, fleshing out the characters and plotlines that have been hinted at or neglected throughout the first few books, but it has kept my interest the whole way through. Doing that with almost no presence from many of the main characters in the series (Jon, Tyrion, Daenerys, Bran) is pretty impressive.

I've always wondered why people were so down on the 4th book so much, I suspect it's because the third one was all action with A LOT whereas AFFC's is a bit more reserved. That and a lot of the really popular characters like Tyrion, Jon Snow, and Daenerys didn't have chapters in it. Honestly if I had to rank them they'd go like this:
1. A Clash of Kings 2. A Feast For Crows 3. A Game of Thrones 4. A Storm of Swords 5. A Dance With Dragons Too much happened in A Storm of Swords that I found it really hard to keep track of, especially in Essos. Way too many names were dropped and characters introduced that it was just a sensory overload. When so much of it was called back in A Dance With Dragons I got really confused on what happened and resorted to the awoiaf.westeros.org wiki which helped clear things up, but also spoiled some things. |
