anyone else excited?:yeah:

Phantom Limb 05-09-2012 06:34 PM

This movie looks like it's gonna fucking dope!

jackhammer 05-09-2012 06:43 PM

It had better be. A lot is riding on this prequel to Alien.

Ridley Scott is directing which is a plus point and who better to invest in the Alien mythos than the man who brought it to the screen originally? Minuses? He hasn't made a really top class film in years. Will it really tie into the original Alien film and expand the the concept or is it just another cash in?

I really hope it works.

bob. 05-09-2012 06:47 PM

the movie will be wonderful....and the last 12 minutes will make fans of alien.....well you know :)

.

wasn't even aware it was a cannon prequel, i thought it was just a "spiritual successor" if you will.

That makes me real happy. Hopefully some of the original screenwriting talent from the series is involved

bob. 05-09-2012 07:18 PM

it is not a direct sequel.....but then ending will make fans of the original (Alien) very happy

Have you seen it?

bob. 05-09-2012 07:25 PM

no....but i've been reading about it for the last couple of months

and pretty much every review says basically that "although not a direct sequel the last 12 minutes will make fans of Alien jump for joy"

to be honest the preview makes me jump for joy.....i will be at the first showing on june 8th in sparks nv for anybody who ants to join me :)

i feel like it is going to explain why the craft was there.....but not why or where the "Aliens" came from (which could lead into a direct sequel....which Scott has been talking about for some time now :) )

i've watched Alien twice in the last month to prepare myself for this :)

Sneer 05-09-2012 07:27 PM

Ah OK, I'm going to need to reacquaint myself with Alien before I see this too I think. As things stand I'm still looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises more.

bob. 05-09-2012 07:39 PM

sneer you don't even want to get me started about Dark knight Rises....i'll have to change my pants again :)

Prometheus is a very close second for my excitement this summer.....and to be honest even if it did not have the obvious Alien connection two things sell me on this as being one of the best movies of the year 1) Ridley Scott 2) doing sci-fi = sold :)

Sparky 05-09-2012 08:58 PM

This summer already seems much better than last years. Green Lanter, Captain America, Smurfs, another pirates of the carribbean, a lotta boring crap in 2011.

Howard the Duck 05-09-2012 10:07 PM

i nearly had premature ejaculation when i saw the trailer in the cinemas

the ship is the exact same ship as the one in the first Alien, where the host alien's body was found

Scarlett O'Hara 05-10-2012 12:05 AM

I am totes excited about this movie.

Yac 05-10-2012 02:24 AM

I can't remember a movie I was as excited about as I am about Prometheus. It's going to be (well, I hope, really hope) a cult classic.
Remembering all the Weyland-Yutani androids from Aliens, this particular viral convinced me this might be as good as it's supposed to be.

freaking classic :)

KTS 05-15-2012 02:42 PM

Can't wait to see it! ;)

Bulldog 05-16-2012 11:55 AM

All signs point to awesome as far as I'm concerned...either that or bitter disappointment. I'm cautiously optimistic about this though.

Major fangasm when I saw this little beauty get put online a few months back;

Got my ticket booked for June 3rd. Must remember to have a marathon of the original quadrilogy sometime before that...

Alfred 05-16-2012 12:11 PM

Bought the first Alien movie on Blu Ray after hearing a lot of the buzz for this. Might give it a watch tonight.

You do that ;)

Personally I love all 4 of the original quadrilogy, including Resurrection. Also, Alien 3 is very underrated. If I had to rank all of the films in the Alien franchise, it'd look something like;

Alien / Aliens > Alien 3 > Alien: Resurrection >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Aliens vs Predator

...never seen AVP: Requiem, never will either.

bob. 05-16-2012 02:06 PM

June 3rd!?....where do you live man....it does not open till the 8th here :(

and yes Alfred you should be watching it now :) i recently upgraded my copies to BluRay and the extended versions are quite entertaining...Aliens has an extra 40 minutes :)

and i agree Bulldog the whole series are all great movies in their own right 3 is serious underrated when compared to its older brothers :)

It's out on the 1st June here :) One thing is definitely guaranteed with the film and that will be the production design, Ridley Scott is a master of this.

bob. 05-17-2012 03:39 PM

more proof that i live on the wrong continent :)

i agree if everything else bombs with this film....it will be worth seeing for the eye candy

I'd have to go tom cruise and just not let her leave my house, ever!

Wait... You would only kiss her as Tom Cruise? Why would you do that? Why not just as yourself?

Besides, Tom Cruise is really short. You could totally have her and not be Tom Cruise man.

Guybrush 05-21-2012 01:25 PM

Hey, when did this become a Charlize Theron thread?

Beautiful women are nice, but I think there are better ways to enjoy such eye candy. I think it's a bit sad how every heroine has to be strikingly beautiful, booba- and boobylicious these days. I mean, sometimes I just don't think those particular features are the ones that suit the character the most.

Since this is a Ridley Scott movie, let's take Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley as an example. She's a beautiful woman, but she's no Jessica Alba or Scarlet Johanson type beauty .. and would it be better if they'd cast someone with that kind of looks? Hell no! Sigourney Weaver was perfect for that role, but I'm not sure she'd get it if that film was made today.

bob. 05-21-2012 01:58 PM

uh when i said eye candy i was actually talking about the tunnel and the alien chamber :)

so i read an interview with Scott over the weekend and he openly admits to enjoying fucking with eh fanboys as to whether or not this is a true alien prequel....and again says the last 12 minutes are where its at :)

i am joining a group of friends for beers at my favorite brewery and an early evening viewing on the 8th.....but at this point i may just have to go to the early show also :)

I actually agree with you wholeheartedly. I would love films to cast realistic-looking people. I have a hard time watching mainstream network content because all the people look like plastic. Films/TV based on historical events are more irksome, it could be the black plague and chances are the actors still have sparkling white teeth.

Like you were insinuating though, the film needs to be marketable. Charlize Theron has the acting chops to back it up at least,(more so than the contemporaries you mentioned-scarlett or alba)especially in Monster.

Haha naw, i'm well aware of our future togethor:D

I was joking that when she's mine I'm going to keep her locked in my house similar to Tom Cruise and Kate Hudson's relationship, which was some tabloid gossip, i don't really know why i bothered bringing up.

Just got back from seeing it. I have major issues with the ending not tying up anything and basically shouting "Hey! Sequel on the way!" which ruined it for me. The acting was good, though, and there certainly were "strands of Alien DNA." However, the ride as a whole was mediocre at best; not enough tension and suspense.

Give this one a miss. Major disappointment.

Seems like a lot of dissapointment from audiences, especially those that love the original alien films. This wasnt even as good as alien 3!

I've yet to hear from any dissatisfied Alien fans. I haven't gone out of my way to find any opinions from other Alien fans, but it seems to me those not familiar with the earlier Alien movies are the ones who are the most disappointed. As a fan, I definitely enjoyed Prometheus, more so than Alien 3.

duga 06-10-2012 10:12 AM

Yeah... it was much much better than Alien 3. I actually still have trouble accepting Alien 3 as an official Alien movie because they killed a huge part of what made Aliens so good. James Cameron has been known to hate it. He felt killing off Newt and Hicks was a huge slap in the face to Aliens fans... and I agree. To me, the Alien series ended after Aliens. It's not the first Cameron series to make me feel that way, either. The Terminator series ended after 2 in my head.

Anyway, onto Prometheus. I actually think Scott did a great job of revealing enough to keep Alien fans enticed but keeping enough hidden to keep interest in sequels. A few things I'm glad he answered...

Spoiler for prometheus stuff:
What the space jockeys looked like. Now we know it was a helmet and they look human (more or less). As an Alien fan, that was a pretty big reveal.

We now know more about their relationship with the Aliens. At the very least they used their hyper-adaptable DNA to create the black goo that then helped create life on Earth. Why do I think it was Alien DNA and not something they engineered directly? Because they still couldn't control it and the mural on the wall in the room with the vases had an image of some Aliens on it, as if they revered them in some way. We also know that they used their DNA as both a weapon and a tool to create.

and some theories of my own...

Spoiler for more prometheus stuff:
They mentioned the head was roughly 2000 years old and the movie takes place in the late 2000s. Their decision to "start over" with life on Earth would coincide directly with a boatload of religious wars. This is backed up by the fact that faith and religion are themes in the movie. Humans fighting each other and being stupid would be a good reason to think their experiment failed and maybe they should try again.

People exposed to the goop directly go nuts, get hyper strength, and eventually their heads explode. It's a pretty good way to ensure a race is wiped out without having to blow up the planet and mess up their "lab".

They must also use the pure Alien form as a biological weapon as well. Why else would they have a stockpile of eggs on the ship in the first Alien? I'm thinking more of this will be revealed in the sequels.

So overall, I was very happy with the new life and possibilities breathed into a dying franchise. The pacing in the last half of the movie was choppy to say the least, but all in all I liked it a lot. I can't wait for the sequels. This is something new, too, because with each AVP movie that came out I cringed more and more and just wished they would stop.

Guybrush 06-10-2012 10:38 AM

Duga, I agree with your post 100% :) Well put.
