i mean with stuff like "Skyrim" around why do I even want to bother with FF anymore?
Again...X was just as linear. I'm sure they switched back to a turn based system because most people didn't actually like the "real-timeness" of XII. In fact, people still complained that it was too real time in XIII.

I play FF games for the strategy involved. It takes a bit of mastering for each game, and eventually nailing it makes me feel smart. Games like Skyrim are fun but pretty damn easy.

that's cos you set the difficulty level too low

anyway, the best turn-based strategy I've ever played was Grandia III

but even though the system was good, the story wasn't all that compelling nor were the characters

X I only really liked the puzzles - i didn't think the combat mechanics were much good either

For me I enjoy GTA & Elder Scrolls

I also really miss Ultima Online and Counter Strike.

FFVII hands down. Anyone who says otherwise has no clue what they're talking about

Seriously this series has almost as many releases as FF in Japan, and is an inch behind its high profile.

There are several new releases on PS3/Wii I need to check out. See if they've advanced it any further.

Combat system for an RPG is unmatched btw.
That's pretty awesome, especially those perks! That also reminds me that I should check out the classic games on the PSN more often.

Going back to the Final Fantasy talk though... would FF7 really be considered the best if it hadn't gone 3d and was presented the same as all the previous ones?

That's what I was talking about earlier... VII is basically a rehash of VI in 3d. I like VI's story much more. In fact, I would prefer VI to be remade over VII.

I really do think the reason it got so much credit was because of how it hit gamers with revolutionary graphics. That alone gave the FF series its fame.

The only other reason I see were the distinctive stylish characters.
