Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V: Official Gameplay Video - YouTube

This generation's last hurrah. The graphics are already starting to show their age unfortunately, but then the GTA series has never been about Crysis level graphics. The gameplay trailer looks superb.

Who else is getting it?

LoathsomePete 07-12-2013 11:10 AM

I was actually looking to pass it up because I wasn't that interested in the return to Los Santos and it looked like some of the things I liked about GTAIV were going to be either toned down or left out. I also wasn't that sold on having the three protagonists as I felt it would mean there would be little in the way of character development. Then I saw the actual gameplay trailer and decided that I would get it, maybe not right away, but sometime around Christmas.

Exo 07-12-2013 01:13 PM

Gameplay trailer looks legit. I already pre-ordered it. I won't show up at midnight, but I'll have it that weekend.

Forward To Death 07-12-2013 01:21 PM

I've been stoked for months. Saw the gameplay trailer a couple of days ago and it's not helping at all.

Thom Yorke 07-12-2013 01:59 PM

I always find myself getting bored with GTA games after playing them for a little bit. Not sure what it is about them. This looks great but I'm not sure if it'll be the same as all the others for me in that regard.

Quzi 07-13-2013 12:04 AM

Is it wrong that I expected the graphics to look a bit better than they do? I played the Last of Us at a friends house the other day and was pretty impressed with what had become possible on the PS3, and this kinda looks a little weak in comparison. I understand it's a huge open world and therefore less time can be spent refining everything but still, some elements looked undercooked, the waves and whatnot.

However, that's only a superficial complaint, the gameplay looks like it has addressed my qualms with GTA IV and for that I'm still very keen to pick this up.

It looks cool. I'm a little disappointed that it's present day though.

butthead aka 216 07-13-2013 01:21 AM

it looks cool but i always end up doing cheat codes and tryin to fight entire swat teams with an army tank and lots of weaponry within the first 2 weeks of any gta game so as of right now i am going to pass on this purchase because i cant justify spending this much money on a game right now and i will keep everyone updated if i make the purchase

djchameleon 07-13-2013 03:27 AM

I'm throwing down for that super expensive bundle. Idk why I always do it when GTA comes out. I still have my duffel bag and lockbox from when GTA 4 came out.

I have no idea why people liked IV. It was ****. The strong storyline was cool and all, but after it was over the game became pointless. There was nothing really to do after all the missions were done. The only reason to keep it going is if you shelled out for the DLC. This looks like the game that should have followed San Andreas: a giant sandbox world that, if there is any justice, will be even bigger than the original, with even more pointless crap to steal days of your life. That's the entire reason that San Andreas ruled. I could go wander around in the backwoods, or a desert, or just plain drive around on the miles and miles of highways. What could I do in Liberty City? **** all, that's what.

And they brought back planes! Awesome! And I don't remember if they took tanks out of IV, but I don't seem to remember them. And you can have clothes that don't look like an old man's. Seriously, I ****ing hated the clothing in IV. I don't even know why they bothered.

All that crap is why I traded in my copy of IV and got the new Saints Row instead. Never regretted it either. This game looks like it may help Rockstar reclaim the throne.

What decade did you want them to use? I prefer present day over anything else honestly.

The DLC and the multiplayer more than made up for everything else that you are bitching about plus Liberty City being modeled off of NYC was enough for me to love it and keep playing it. I still play it to this day!

I never played the DLC, but unless it brought back the massive sandbox world then I'm sure it's interest would have been just as short-lived as the main storyline. I don't play GTA for the storyline. I play it to do donuts over cops and spend hours doing pointless bull**** that has **** all to do with the actual game. I do it for defending my turf. I do it for hanging out in an airfield in the middle of a goddamn desert. I do it for driving an off road motorcycle through the woods. I do it for stealing harriers and jetpacks and alien goo from the government. I do it for piloting helicopters over boats, exiting them over the boat, killing the owner, and then using the boat to pirate other boats. So, Niko can kiss my ass.

oh that's fine. You are one of those creative players that don't really care about storylines and just use GTA as an outline to vent and do the wild shit that you'd love to do in reality but can't. Or after a stressful day you use it to unwind by taking out your frustration on the game.

I personally only play for the story. I don't rack up stars to see how high I can get them and then get away or the type of body counts I can get before I get killed. It's almost like when you see little kids killing ants with a lens using the sun.

Sexy online footage of course I just noticed that it's on the homepage of youtube so most people might have seen it but yeah w/e

The sexy part about online is being able to create your own events or just playing some of the ones that others have created. I really like user generated content. I've had loads of fun in Infamous 2 with it and also in the newest Hitman with user generated content.

I'm not sure whether I should take offense to that or not.

I guess that came out wrong. I'm not trying to say you are the serial killer in training types. I apologize.

Just that you get your kicks by creatively killing people within the games parameters.

Oh. Well hell yeah I do. Being a good person is dull.

LoathsomePete 09-16-2013 01:20 PM

The reviews are in and it is currently sitting at a 97 on Metacritic. If you feel like seeing some first hand examples in favor of the obliteration of the human race go over to GameSpot and check out the comments section for their review. People are going nuts because they only gave it a 9/10.

Goofle 09-16-2013 02:55 PM

This game is going to blow my mind.

Cuthbert 09-16-2013 03:08 PM

I bought 4 and thought it was slightly above average at best. Not even arsed about this, I may buy it but I sort of feel like GTA lost it's magic once I got older.

I saw the opening 20 minutes on the internet though and it looked like it was based way more around the storyline which is what I like as I'm a MGS/FF fan.

Goofle 09-16-2013 03:10 PM

GTA 4 failed in a few areas, but this game is on another level.

Cuthbert 09-16-2013 03:17 PM

Have you bought it?

I'm not a massive gamer anymore but I feel a bit of a twat cos it's out tomorrow and people have been getting their copies in the post early, and now the rave reviews... I do want to get The Last Of Us as well though.

Goofle 09-16-2013 03:19 PM

I'll probably go and buy it tomorrow if I have enough money in the bank. If not, Friday is pay day.

Cuthbert 09-17-2013 06:07 AM

Fuck this shit. I'm going to Tesco later to buy this game. Just hope the one by my house stocks it as it's not a massive supermarket type of Tesco.

I've put a couple hours in. It's amazing.

Well yeah, cause it sacrificed the sandbox world with fifty million things to do for a storyline that gets old after one playthrough. From what I hear the new one seems to be the true spiritual successor to San Andreas. My pants are pre-soiled for when I finally play it.

What do you even mean by that? They all have storylines.

He means the gameplay and missions were repetitive and there was nothing fun to do when you beat the game. which he's right about

This is for you Amazon for delivering my game to the wrong address :finger:

There was multiplayer online and there is always fun things to do when you beat the game and especially the way that he plays. He doesn't care about the storyline so you'd think he would have came up with all these creative ways to kill people like most other people do.

He just didn't like the New York setting most likely.

the NY setting was pretty to look at, but felt constricted and too crowded. which may have been the point but it didn't make for a very fun map.

I don't really care about online multiplayer in a GTA game. I liked the last gen GTAs way better, and I liked Red Dead Redemption way better than IV too.

Scarlett O'Hara 09-17-2013 07:19 PM

I want to play it at least. I want to beat up some prostitutes.

I loved the NY setting because I live here I guess and seeing it all in game was pretty cool.

I played the multiplayer for years. I only stopped playing it around December of last year.

I see a theme though, you prefer wide open areas. I haven't played RDR but I'm guessing since it's a western there is alot of wide open area to get lost in similar to the Fallout Games.

Scarlett O'Hara 09-17-2013 07:27 PM

Fallout...*drools*.

With GTA games, absolutely. Rockstar and Bestheda are the kings of open world, I play their games to do whatever i ****ing feel like :pimp:

but not in every game, there's nothing wrong with linearity in a game. you should definitely play RDR, top 10 game of this generation.

Exo 09-17-2013 08:12 PM

I have played this game for ten hours today. I never ever do that. Ever. It's that good.

I only played it for an hour or so. I'm feeling sickly. The first thing I did was visit the strip club to see how they changed it then I went on with the missions.
