Actually it is. It attacks modern sacred cows, not the same ones Carlin attacked decades ago.

Sex isn't edgy anymore. Unless it's not consensual.

Where as Chappelle is primal. He's making Chinese faces. He's buying guns to protect his property from heroine addicted whites. He's actually being funny. Not witty, not insightful, funny.

You say primal, I say reactionary. And wit is a huge component of comedy, I'm not sure what you're driving at there unless you're agreeing with me that Chappelle isn't very funny on his latest special.

Nah, it's still not edgy. The backlash isn't the tidal wave that people are making it out to be, it's just 2 dozen people on Twitter. You sure do give a lot of power to the people that you don't seem to want to drive the conversation.

I disagree. When I get the chance I can give you a point by point breakdown of why this is edgier than any special I've ever seen on Netflix. It will take me a while though. I'm probably going to rewatch the special to make sure I remember everything correctly. It might be tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Reacting to PC trends would've been edgy in 2010 but not anymore.

You should watch the David Cross special that came out this year, it's similarly smarmy low tier non-humour. It also has some reactionary cultural martyrdom so jwb might get something out of it too.

Reacting to PC trends goes back to Lenny Bruce, so they're no reason to draw the line at 2010.

This is still the kinda **** that gets you into actual controversy from time to time. Being edgy and dashing pc norms are basically the same thing. The only thing that changes is what's considered PC

there are plenty of lefty comics that I like. I like David cross in Mr show and arrested developement, I just also enjoy making fun of the disabled and the down trodden.

anyway trans folk and potential rape victims are not the sacred cows of today

there's a little less tolerance for it and a little more awareness but we still live in a culture that's incredibly toxic towards both these groups

he was a better political commentator on politically incorrect, he just wasn't ever very funny.

There's nothing remotely dangerous anymore about that. The old Christian right lost the culture war. Hopefully the modern leftist outrage mobs will too, in time.

His special is receiving nearly unanimous positive reception, so no I wouldn't call it edgy. He definitely tried though I'll give him that.

Bigger and Blackerer was good too but everything he's done since 2016 has been straight trash. Same style as earlier, just more reactionary and little actual humour behind what he's saying. Now who does that remind me of...

jwb 09-02-2019 04:25 PM

.... That is often the case with well done edgy humor. Louis CK, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Ricard Pryor, all well recieved by their audiences while attacked by a few fragile souls.

Ah sí, the great Ricardo Pryor.

Anyways man, don't worry, it's being acclaimed by a lot of fragile souls too. I once said I thought the jokes were underwhelming and this guy accused me of being too PC to like real comedy even though I didn't think anything he said was offensive. I think Chappelle's making a mockery out of them too.

I don't care what you think of it. I don't consider anti pc to even be a cause that comes into my head until I predicably see all my favorite comedians and entertainers pounced upon by the outrage mob.

If you don't like something cause it offends you then I have no problem you

But when the mob takes someone down they annoy me. They start to look like ants at a BBQ. And you know what we do with them.

i dunno why I just fundamentally don't believe you

I believe you know taking the "that's offensive" angle is a losing angle in comedy

Maybe I'm wrong. But I'm guessing you like exactly 0 comedy specials that have the kind of content Chappelle's had, regardless of the jokes or execution.

Like what?

The "well I can say whatever I want!" approach in this special just comes off as try hard and reactionary. Most of the great edgy humour out there comes more naturally.

jwb 09-02-2019 04:47 PM

Your opinion is noted and duly discarded.

you keep saying reactionary. You know that's the favored buzzword of cultural Marxists don't you? ;)

I'm glad you liked fragile souls.

Then why are snowflake leftists the only thing you ever talk about? You accuse me of pop psychology by calling you a right winger but one guy says they don't think a comedy special is funny and next thing we've got twenty pages on how he's a leftist PC cuck.

jwb 09-02-2019 05:04 PM

I guess cause all I was seeing in terms of criticism was coverage on how offended people were

And seeing that he does strike me as a leftist PC type I connected dots. Elph chiming in only added fuel to that fire.

And since I fundamentally don't trust people to be honest, I just assumed they weren't.

The Batlord 09-02-2019 05:05 PM

So in other words you were a triggered snowflake cuck.

Wow you trust the liberal media?

jwb 09-02-2019 05:09 PM

I do get triggered sometimes.

But I also don't use those trendy terms so you trying to turn them back on me seems like you're just profiling me and filling in the blanks, similar to what I did.

Reading audience reviews and going to sites like Rotten Tomatoes or imdb to get a better idea of what the reception has been since those sources don't thrive on conflict.

What is it exactly that you don't believe? That I don't use those terms?

I didn't actively seek out reviews. I knew it would get good reviews. The screaming from the mob just popped up in news videos.

Neat. I gave you an alternative that will give you a better idea of what people think of the special (in both directions).

You're saying that "PC" and "the left" aren't part of the common mainstream political vernacular? Right

Truth is it doesn't even matter cause you turning those phrases on me would work if that was something I went around calling other people. Since I don't, there's no difference between the way you used them and the way the right (uh oh another buzzword) uses them. Which brings me joy. :tramp:

Neat. I'm only being honest that this scenario isn't something that pops up often enough for me to do that. But thanks for the input.

Ok good. Now, nobody says that **** on the internet who isn't a 4Chan retard. You are full-on 4Chan retard right now. The fact that you don't see it makes it even worse.

both elph and frownland used the term PC during our discussion

And the left is just a generic term same as the right

I was speaking to my audience. I would've used the more general "culture war nonsense" instead of PC if it were a standalone statement.

jwb 09-02-2019 05:52 PM

Do you not think political correctness is a real thing?

Lemme ask you this... what should I substitute to describe the same phenomenon, since apparently "PC" is uncouth even though it's been in the mainstream lexicon for decades.
