he's totally right though. i like the film quite a bit but it's only an intelligent film to the meathead jocks that it primarily appeals to. whether that was the intent or not.

I just thought it means Exo went in with all guns blazing, or something?

Fight Club is an intelligent movie in that it lampoons male aggressive mentality while also acknowledging its relevance to men. It's obviously going to be misconstrued by lugheads and isn't exactly a masterpiece of social critique, but as a piece of surreal fantasy that expresses frustration at the male role in modern society it's very unique and creative.

The only philosophical insight in Fight Club that you can't find in a community college dollar bin is its commentary on the dudebros that embrace it.

I'm not talking about the actual dialogue btw, which is clearly entry level teenage ranting and presumably meant to be so, I mean just the helpless feeling of modern expectations on men vs. base male instinct and how there's really no answer to the dichotomy. Consumerist culture is soulless and being an anti-social dudebro just makes you an *******. There's no greater meaning to the movie than that, which is why I said that its most meaningful aspect is just the author of the book basically venting. It's an intelligent vent.

Watch Bullhead for the meditation on what masculinity is, watch Fight Club because it's a fun movie with a cool vibe.

Hey, I don't claim it's a work of genius, just that it's at least intelligent. And I certainly don't watch it to understand myself and the world around me better.
