I only ever read about ½ the manga, but I still see how the movie is missing quite a bit from there. Even so, I think they did well to adapt and compress the idea into a movie and I think it is - while not the best anime movie - a very good one and a must-see for any sci-fi fan, regardless of what you think of anime.

I need to watch it again though. It's been years.

Need to read the entire manga too, but I don't know know if I'll ever get around to that, tbh.

The Batlord

I think it's overrated as a lot of its notoriety comes from its gory visuals, at least in America, but it's still fantastic. I'd really like to read the manga though, as the ending definitely feels like it could be expanded on. *spoilers* Finding out that Akira is just a bunch of organs in jars was so anti-climactic and pointless.*spoilers*

The best anime movies will always be Studio Ghibli films.

Is this a good time to mention that I find Ghibli films mostly unbearably dull?

Satoshi Kon movies for the win. Only problem is that he died before he could make all that many. At least he made Paprika - the ultimate anime movie.

I've only seen Perfect Blue, and while it's awesome, it's no Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke. Really really need to get off my ass and watch Paprika, but I need to cop some weed first and I don't know when I'm going to do that. Hayao Miyazaki just has an instinct for children's fantasy that puts Walt Disney to shame. Even The Secret Life of Arrietty by some other non-Miyazaki guy who aped him with Ghibli was brilliant and made me want to live any life that wasn't as boring as human life.

I definitely think Paprika qualifies as a must see for anyone interested in anime to any degree. You might not like it, but it is a very creative and amazingly well crafted movie, with some great music to boot. No matter what you will think about it, it should at the very least be an interesting experience.

I think the one Ghibli movie I really liked was Spirited Away. I've only seen a handful, though. Grave of the Fireflies was the saddest movie ever, but I don't know for sure if that was a Ghibli production.

No idea since I'm not a weirdo movie aficionado, but I'm also not a hater, so whatevs I just wanna watch it. It's been on my hard drive for like two years or something but I've just not gotten off my ass. I'm not watching it without weed though. Once stoned, then sober, and then stoned again. I'm just off the whacky tobaccy atm cause money.

It was. Another anime movie I need to see. Along with that egg movie Mondo watched a while back. I need to see way more experimental anime as the spotlight is way too much on mainstream **** and Japan is ****ing weird and I need to see their legit weird ****.

Weirdest anime I've watched that was actually good: Dead Leaves. It's really short too, so it's not much if you feel like watching something pretty offbeat.
