the last few I watched (Ikiru, All About Lily Chou Chou, Cranes are Flying) were all fantastic but failed to deliver. Ikiru came really close but they didn't milk the scene enough.

Evil (original Norwegian title is "Ondskan". A better english translation in this case would have been "Cruelty".)

While it's not actually a sad movie per se, it will make you feel bad and might ruin your whole day. In a good way.

If you can find a better version or want to persevere, I do honestly think it's a great movie. But I'd understand if you gotta draw a line somewhere.

It's a good, Swedish film. The Swedish speaking throughout, the setting in Sweden, and the inclusion of at least one Skarsgård gives it away .

I don't usually mix up Norway and Sweden. It's just that it's been many years since I watched the movie. Ooops.

No worries.

Another good, sad Swedish film is "A Man called Ove" (En man som heter Ove). If that doesn't make you cry then you have no soul. Although Tom Hanks is remaking it/starring in it so you could always wait for the American version.

"Lilja-4-ever" is another great film although that might throw you off the deep end. Generally, Swedish films aren't that good these days. Mainly over the top mushy with a few exceptions.
