I thought that was gonna be a link to Your Flesh Is So Nice at first. I do like that song but its not one of my favourites. I really like Vancouver, Nightmares By The Sea, New Years Prayer, Satisfied Mind and I Know We Could Be So Happy Baby (If We Wanted to Be).

I am a little confused where you state that Jeff produced two full albums however. I assume then you are including Sketches? Even though it wasnt finished there are some great studio recordings on there. I must admit i often find it difficult to listen to that record as it is so clear that it is incomplete but its a fine record regardless.

Hallelujah was a smash last year too, unfortunately due to some reality TV show contestants performing the song and fans downloading the Buckley version of it. It was good to see the song chart so highly though after all these years. If im not mistaken 2008 was Jeff Buckleys first #1.
I'm including Sketches because it was released by his label even if it was a work in progress. The album is uneven but there are some great moments in it. Jeff recorded enough material for a full album with producer Tom Verlaine in New York but he decided to re-record the entire album over again in Memphis because he wasn't satisfied with the results of the Verlaine produced album. I thought Sketches was a real mess and the Verlaine produced album would have ended up being a career albatross for Jeff. So he made the right move by taking it to Memphis redo completely.

Tom Verlaine is one of the great guitarists of his era but I've never liked the way he mixes his own albums because his voice nearly always gets drowned out by the guitars. Verlaine's voice sounds much better live and his live guitar playing has a more of a crystalline quality that doesn't get captured on his studio records. Verlaine's work with Television sounds so much better because the producers Marquee Moon and Adventure were both a couple of studio wizards who were responsible for the engineering and mixing of some of the great classic era albums of the Stones, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix.

Congrats on the new journal, it's shaping up really nicely. That's the first time I get the details on Jeff Buckley, when before it was only just this blurry image of an artist that died young.
A very enjoyable read for now ...Keep it up

Bump because I think you should update this.
I like the way you write, and although I have a hard time focusing sometimes, it's an easier read than a lot of journals.
I should have known you'd make your first post about Jeff Buckley! ^_^
Is it just me, or do you feel like his music should always be played really loudly?
I remember the first time you introduced me to his music, and I was blown away.

Anyways, good journal. [= Update it.

I know, i need to update this thing. I can't believe i pondered over the idea of starting this for so long and then when I finally did I still let it escape my memory and never stuck with it.

I sometimes listen to Jeff Buckley quietly when im playing it through earphones in bed. There are certain moments in tracks like Mojo Pin and Dream Brother however that lose of some of their impact unless they are being played loudly. I also once lay on my bed and suffered through a hangover, blasting Kanga-Roo at pretty much full volume. That shouldn't help, but it did.

Anyway, thank you for the input. I'm glad you got through the whole post.

Well when I'm sleeping, I always listen to music quietly, I don't know if I could listen to him quietly for the simple fact that I really think his music needs to be played loudly. =P Or at least everything I've heard up til now.
Hahaha thanks for making the post UNBELIEVABLY LONG. =P

Great post on Jeff Buckley! I love Jeff Buckley so much... Grace was the first song I'd ever heard of his and it blew me away just as it did to you. I had never heard anything like it.
