Sometimes I wonder if that thread was the impetus for this urban dictionary entry:

I went through that thread and found a post or two from the account that I used to use. Honestly, I can't remember ever seeing that thread before, but evidence proves otherwise. Still, I read through it and couldn't help but laugh. What a joker.

I've decided to make this a regular thing in my journal, "Flashback" will be a place to write brief reviews of albums that I'm listening to that I listened to while I was growing up. There'll probably be a lot of cringe worthy albums, but to me, they are what I grew up with so it's got sentimental value.

I Set My Friends On Fire - You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter

This album used to get a daily play whenever I got home from school to get my homework done. Revisiting it, I can still see why I listened to it as much as I did. Not sure where it would be placed on my list of favorite albums, but it's definitely a good one to go back to. This album was one of those that not a lot of people knew about yet because this band wasn't really...that big. Not really sure if they are now. I even remember when they released a few songs on Myspace, and when they posted that they got a record deal. In those days, songs from this album weren't the remastered sound that they were when they were first released. I personally don't like the redone sound, I liked the raw sound they had when they started, but to each their own. My favorite song on this album remains to be...



This album may be a regular listen again, but I haven't decided yet. I still like it, but it doesn't have the same value it once had. I still have it on CD, so it'd be a good one to keep around if anything.

Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself

Honestly, I'm not sure why I stopped listening to Imogen Heap, since I really really liked and still do like this album. It was a great album to listen to while driving with friends in the summer. It was definitely a constant listen throughout my years of high school, and I even recommended it to other people to listen to it. It brings back a lot of memories, but nothing terrible. It was one of those albums I would go to when I just wanted to feel good. The music was always calming and never really sounded stale, it still doesn't, and now it just sounds better after all this time. I'll probably give the rest of her collection a listen, since I never got around to it before.

Not sure what my favorite song was back then, but this one is always a good one:

Goodnight and Go

I also LOVE "Goodnight & Go", it totally reminds me of my college boyfriend (who also loved Imogen). She is an amazing artist and I'd like to see her release some new work. :) Great post, Ki!

Green Day - Dookie

I remember when my uncle picked this album out for me along with an album by Metallica and Rage Against The Machine. Definitely an album I have learned to appreciate more the older I get. Along with American Idiot, Dookie is probably the only other Green Day album I can say that I thoroughly enjoy. It's the punk sound of Green Day that I wished would have stayed with them in their future endeavors, but they've evolved more into pop punk, which is fine. Giving this album a listen today has left me with a feeling of nostalgia. I don't quite remember the age I first heard this, but I think it had an effect on how I look at punk rock today.

Dookie was a fantastic album to listen to again. A lot of good memories came with that album.

Rise Against - The Sufferer and The Witness

Next up is a familiar name, Rise Against. Funny thing is, the only song I ever heard from this album is "Ready To Fall", so listening to this album as a whole is an entirely new experience for me, but it's definitely doing it's job with keeping me entertained. If I was as open minded back then as I am right now, this album would have had more plays by me, unfortunately I mostly followed what was going on in mainstream radio, hell who didn't. This band still does have that familiar sound which I like, and they have the potential to be a band that I will listen to regularly. I get the same feeling with familiar songs as most do, it gives me goosebumps, because it comes with a bit of nostalgia and makes me feel like a kid again. It's strange how music can do that. It definitely proves the theory that music will never die as long as you listen to what you like.

So yeah, my favorite song is still Ready To Fall, though Prayer of the Refugee is a fantastic song as well.

Black Bonzo - Lady of the Light

A good friend of mine and a fellow prog fanatic posted a video from this band on my Facebook last night, i'm not giving the whole album a proper listen. It's very space / Floyd-ish, but still some originality in it's own right. Sad to see that they only have released two albums, but from what I can tell, they don't show any form of laziness or lack of creativity throughout. Definitely worth a listen.

Ashley Parker Angel - Soundtrack To Your Life

I really don't know how long it's been since I even thought about this artist, or this album in general. I'm very happy that the album starts off with Let U Go though, because that song alone brings back a lot of happy memories. I remember making a profile on Myspace and that song was my profile song, and I would go to my profile just to hear it again. I was actually very enthusiastic about checking this album out again because it's actually a lot better than I previously thought. It's got the typical rock formula so nothing out of the ordinary or too special, but it's definitely something I can find myself listening to more and more as time goes on.
