Default My Music Journal (and many other things)

I know im new around these parts, but I figured I would create something on here to help people understand more about me, and i'm sure that's what this place is all about, bantering toward each other about endless stuff. So here's a pretty straightforward list of what this journal will contain, and I will begin it very soon.

In this journal, you will find:
  • Album Reviews
  • Videos I like (music and not music related)
  • Bands that I recommend
  • Random thoughts about things that pop into my head
  • Lyrics to songs that I find to be pretty cool/amazing

It will probably become more of a daily journal sort of thing, but a lot of it will definitely pertain to music. I have a lot of interesting things to say, so be ready for some good reads.

Here's a couple of bands that I really like and will think you will dig as well.

Norther
Pandora's Dawn
The Sorrow
Wolves In The Throne Room
Samael
Immortal
Einherjer
Equilibrium
Tyr
Apollo 440
Bersarin Quartett

That mixes around with the Ambient, Metalcore, and Folk Metal genre's. I'll post more when I think of more.

I'm going to bump this, seems I need to fill this up some more. I've been enjoying a lot of ambient and post rock lately. There have been a couple songs that have really really stuck out to me. I won't really say much about them, the music will do the talking for me. I may do a review on a couple post rock albums i've come across pretty soon though:

Album Review #1:
Sigur Ros - Takk...

This album has always had a special place in my heart for as long as I can remember. It was the first that I had ever heard from the post rock genre, sort of why I am a huge fan of Jonsi Birgisson (obvious by my avatar, and my name).. This is a band that I will listen to when I am feeling emotional, or if I feel lonely. There's one thing I find myself enjoying more than anything however, it's the lyrics. Although I cannot understand them half the time, Jonsi does a fantastic job at using his voice not only as a vocalist, but as an instrument. He has such a wide range that captivates so much emotion that even though the lyrics aren't familiar at first listen, it still grabs you as if you knew what he was feeling.

Onto the album, this album specifically has become one of my favorite albums in any genre, by any band. The first song "Takk..." which for some who don't know, it means "Thanks". Anyway, Takk...starts off kind of slow, but not in a bad way. It has an opening that leads into the second song "Glosoli", which really starts to lead into the rest of the album, which is not only a work of great music, but a work of art, at least in my opinion. Every song from start to finish is filled with so much emotion, so much purity, so much love, that it's hard to really express my love for this album in words.

One song that sticks out from the rest is Andvari:

That song alone does enough by emotionally "trapping" me into the music. It has a way of creating an atmosphere where you feel alone, but you are not alone at the same time. I see myself sitting next to Jonsi as he sings the song. And of course, the end of the song is a slow instrumental which in my opinion, has to be one of the best endings to a song that has been created in quite some time.

I. love. this. song.

the towers that shoulder your pride
the words you've written in stone
sand will cover them, sand will cover you
the streets that suffer your name
your very flesh and your bones
sand will cover them, sand will cover you

so put your faith in more than steel
don't store your treasures up, with moth and rust
where thieves break in and steal
pull the fangs from out your heel
we live in but a shadow of the real

step out from time, see the dust of nations
step out from time, hear the stars ovation

Saturn will not sleep, until the sand has made us clean
still we stack our stones and bury what we can
but it all will be undone, and nothing built under the sun
will ever stand before the endless march of sand

so put your faith in more than steel
don't store your treasures up, with moth and rust
where thieves break in and steal
pull the fangs from out your heel
we live in but a shadow of the real

so put your faith in more than steel
don't store your treasures up, with moth and rust
where thieves break in and steal
pull the fangs from out your heel
we live in but a shadow of the real

Who could dislike Joe Satriani? He's so damn good. Great journal by the way!
