Nujabes - Metaphorical Music is a must if you want something pretty chill

If you end up falling in love with Grime, go with the some of the originators.
Wiley - Treddin on Thin Ice
Dizzee Rascal's Boy in da Corner
Kano - Home Sweet Home
Ghetts - 2000 & Life (You might have issues with Ghetts because he has a distinct kind of slow flow but worth checking out to see how you feel about it.)

Blue Scholars - The Long March EP (2006)

I honestly don't remember when I talked about this album whether in my journal or otherwise, but The Long March EP is one of those special cases where if the world were to end, this is one of the albums I would want with me. Every single track is a hit and Blue Scholars are truly phenomenal at what they do. And I'm not only saying I'm a fan because they are local artists, but it's certainly a plus. A lot of their albums are fantastic, but this one is certainly a gem among them.

The **** is this Frown?

The Batlord 12-24-2016 10:27 AM

Instrumental hip hop. Go listen to it again.

Frownland 12-24-2016 10:46 AM

Is it...really that baffling? Your confusion is confusing.

In any case, you could rap to the instrumentals and turn it into a comedy album.

Key 12-24-2016 10:47 AM

It wasn't instrumentals. It was 32 tracks of random vocals over beats. Unless I listened to the wrong album.

Do you mean the vocal samples? And dude, it's anything but random it's quite cohesive.

I didn't find it anything but random.

This seems to be a common trend among albums that you rec.

That's your fault. Try to listen and understand it instead of just writing it off as simply random. You ever thought that maybe an artist isn't always going to cater to your preconceived notions of music?

Not to mention that Donuts is like, extremely tame in that aspect.

Key 12-24-2016 10:58 AM

If you have to explain how an album is meant to be good, perhaps it's the album that actually isn't good.

Perhaps. You are quite clearly missing something in this case though so an explanation seems necessary.

So explain to me what's so great about Garbage Scott?

Key 12-24-2016 11:09 AM

I don't really know how to answer that since i've never really given off the impression that Travis Scott is the be-all-end-all.

Frownland 12-24-2016 11:18 AM

There's a difference between saying it's the best album ever and recognizing that it's not random at all but here is where you said the album is not **** but all I hear is ****. Explain please.

Travis Scott - Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight

I get a lot of **** for liking Travis Scott, and I honestly don't understand why. Travis Scott is certainly up there for making my year extra special in regards to music. It seems like whatever artist or album I'm listening to, I bring hate to myself. But y'know what? I honestly don't care. It's a solid album, and I happily made it my album of the year. Don't hate the album because other people told you to. Form your own opinion.

When Chris and I are actually in agreement on an album then clearly it's objectively good.

Key 12-24-2016 11:29 AM

You guys are just making silly assumptions.

probably not, if anything that would make me doubt it's goodness. HOWEVER, in this case it is objectively good yeah.

bulbasaur 12-27-2016 09:41 PM

i always feel off the mark with recs, but this could be cool. i'll throw out a few recent drops that i'm sure are on spotify:

sd - just the beginning
isaiah rashad - the sun's tirade
cj fly - flytrap

the sun's tirade is still like, one of the best hip-hop records to come out this year. i think the production will be up ki's alley.

wasn't a fan of CJ's new project tho, i really liked the way eye see it, just wasn't impressed with the new direction he or pro era seem to be taking.

oh with that being said give 1999 by Joey Bada$$ a spin ki.

In the same vein as The Weeknd and Kid Cudi in regards to being an album that I was completely surprised by, but absolutely loved. I'm diving into more Big Sean because of it.

this album was ****.

the sun's tirade was one of my favorite releases this year. i've yet to check out any of cj's previous projects (i'll make a note to get on that); i kind of just threw that rec in there on a whim because it was in my recent downloads, but i enjoyed it. it was a toss up between that and lovell's red teenage melody as a low priority, taste-gauge rec, but concept vague would be a better introduction to lovell, so i nixed that.

Key 12-28-2016 07:59 PM

Thanks guys. I'll get to the recs asap.

Quick Thoughts: As much as I like the music, the voice just isn't for me. Same problem as Danny Brown. Overall, a solid album.

Quick Thoughts: I've never listened to NWA or at least a full album by them, but god damn I have been missing out. I really need to dive deep into their catalog to get a full understanding of their music. This being a debut, it's ****ing fantastic. Thanks Violet!
