The Electronic Music Recommendation Thread

I want to find more purely instrumental, non-dance songs like Eskamon's "Fine Objects": abstract, non-repetitive, crunchy, gritty, menacing, aggressive, solid, and raw, like you're smashing something to smithereens with a large club. Chaotic. I know I don't want a repetitive dance beat or vocals in my ideal dubstep songs.

I've listened through songs in the Dubstep thread, thanks to sidewinder's suggestion, and some more songs by Eskamon (and Amon Tobin and Eskmo), and Cris Clark but I haven't found many songs that have the satisfying heavy, sinister feel I'm searching for, which I especially hear beginning around 0:23 and 1:30 in "Fine Objects."

As another example of what I want (and don't want), I like the menacing sound in "Dark Matter" by Sinister Beats, though I wish it had more bass and I could do without the frilly, repetitive, insipid pitter-pat of rapid drumming. And I like the heavy, sinister feeling of "Venom" (which dieselboy listed in the non-dance electronica thread) except I dislike the woman's voice in the beginning and the drumming gets repetitive, as does the whole song.

Huh. I never guessed when joining MB that I would be someone who discovers she likes darkstep and industrial hardcore!

The last one..."Minus Zero" by Merzbow...well, I can't say I *liked* it, but it is interesting, since it poses the question of what is or isn't music. I don't know if many people would even classify it as a "song," since it verges on just being chaotic noise. "Minus Zero" reminds me of an uncomfortable visit with the drill at the dentist's office!

Hahaa I know what you mean I joined only listening to Trance, Hardstyle, and Black Metal. Now I enjoy so many types it's hard to keep track. And yes it's definitely unusual. I think it's classified as Noise/Industrial. There are genres that are just pure weird like Power Electronics (Whitehouse, Grunt, etc.)

I listen a lot to Justice, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers ect., but would like to get to know more relaxing electronica like Boards of Canada for example. Anyone with a good recommendation?

Secede - Tryshasla is ****ing fantastic, it's got the same sort of ambient psytrance sound of Biosphere and CBL (I don't know the other 3 but will check them out) but is definitely more on the experimental and ambient side. It might get weird at times, but I definitely suggest listening to the whole album before you pass judgement. The song Leraine is one of my favorites.
