Kanye West - Yeezus

It leaked, and it's pretty damn awesome.

Scarlett O'Hara 06-14-2013 11:49 PM

Oh how exciting! *downloads*

I will post my verdict very shortly.

.

Phantom Limb 06-15-2013 07:39 AM

My first impression is that it isn't very good :/

YorkeDaddy 06-15-2013 09:31 AM

lol @ the 1/5.

Scarlett O'Hara 06-15-2013 09:35 AM

I'd like to know who labelled it a 5, because it's so not that good. I agree it's all ego and no creativity.

SGR 06-15-2013 11:08 AM

No creativity? It's a whole new sound and style for West!

What you sniffing Vanilla?

words fail me. I don't really know what to say about this album. It's just so raw and energetic. I wasn't expecting it at all. At times he's closer to Death Grips with the loud and noisy dark production and others he's all sombre with the auto-tuned tracks later on in the album.
He seems angry in places, carries himself with an ego yes, but Yeezy's earned it and at other times he almost seems full of sorrow.
The whole thing is a work of art though, tightly compact and etching with quality throughout.
Maybe...his best yet.

Goofle 06-15-2013 12:30 PM

I think I'll probably like it.

Goofle 06-15-2013 12:47 PM

This shit is fucking great.

I'm eatin' Asian pussy all I need is sweet an' sour sauce

SGR 06-15-2013 01:16 PM

yeah it's pretty great on first listen

What can I say, I'm a critic. It's just I haven't clicked with it first time around. But I did enjoy Blood On The Leaves.

This is an interesting take on it. I will listen to it a few more times with your perspective.

Relentless 06-15-2013 05:32 PM

The production on this is amazing. New style, very hypnotic listening to this. Kanye is not gonna blow people out the water with lyrics everybody knows that. Unique rhyme tempos due to the oddness of the tracks.

Overall man I love this album. and I don't really like Kanye that much but I gotta tip my cap to him with what he brought to the table here

Are you kidding? The production is near flawless and absolutely brilliant, and the album gives probably the most insane look into the mind of an egotistical, self-centered maniac in the history of music. It's a fascinating record and it might be his best.

Relentless 06-15-2013 08:15 PM

after acouple more listens and just paying and giving it undivided attention. I can say in my opinion this is his best CD. The tracks are unique, like I said before the Production is incredible. and listening to the album as a whole outlook. his track order and just songs really gave me like a glimpse into his world. its a very hypnotizing album. I hate to say this but this might be some of the best stuff i've heard this year.better than GKMC? nahh I can't put him in that category but this album is incredible

Antonio 06-15-2013 11:39 PM

I really enjoyed this, it had this dark and angry passion behind it that really got me fired up and ready to f*ck sh*t up. The rawness and frankly some of the ugly sounds really pumps you up, it's really reminiscent of Death Grips for me, and while people think that may be a bad thing I'm totally cool with more hip hop artists exploring this sort of dark and gritty production style with confrontational lyrics/rapping.

I know some people were turned off by the lyrics and how egotistical they can be, but there's just something I enjoy about Kanye when he's cartoonishly egotistical like this, there's just this part of me that likes hearing outlandish claims of power and might from people in this sort of proclaiming "you will accept me as a deity!" way.

Overall, I gave it a 4, I felt that the briefness(this was his shortest album) sort of was a detriment and he could have really fleshed out the sound and tone of this release, but he got a number of things he wanted to say across, and I really liked what I heard.

But yeah, you can tell this is a release that's going to have people divided, even the longtime Kanye fans.

I gave it a 4 also but having the album be short and to the point was actually a bonus in my eyes so we don't have to deal with all the filler. It was great and succinct.

Goofle 06-16-2013 04:09 AM

I think it has the potential to be 5* so I didn't bother voting yet after only one listen.

Phantom Limb 06-16-2013 09:56 AM

I gave this album a 2. The production is boring, unoriginal, and far too dancey. The mix is off. It all sounds rushed. The rapping is way too arrogant, even by Kanye's standards. There's an enjoyable melody in about 2 of the songs. This is not what I expected from Kanye. It's garbage if you ask me.

charkoustic 06-16-2013 11:32 AM

Early review is a 3 -- a few high points but so far it's not engaigng me too much. But I have to let it sink in a bit.

When it's released I'll probably grab the lossy download at least, I think it's at least worth that. Might grab the CD copy if it's on sale but let's see what happens on Tuesday.

I don't understand some of those criticisms as it doesn't remotely seems to be relevant to the album I have listened to. Dancey?

Yeah there's no way its "dancey". But I'm going to give it quite a few listens before I say any more. Honestly I'm already having Blood On The Leaves in my head.

YorkeDaddy 06-16-2013 12:39 PM

Calling this album "dancey" is like calling Coldplay a heavy metal band.

Phantom Limb 06-16-2013 12:52 PM

There is like no boom bap. Every song has a kick on all four beats (with the exception of Blood on the Leaves). Maybe you don't see it as dancey, but that is one of the major characteristics of a dance song so that's how I view it.

I don't know. I am just not feeling this album whatsoever. It's really cool that you guys like it cause now you have a sweet new kanye record, but I'm super disappointed.

Suppose I am the same with MBDTF. Really don't get that album at all.

I don't think you're wrong for not liking this release, there's aspects of it that can turn off alot of people frankly. Personally I like abrasiveness/brashness of this record, but that's just me

Thinkofthechildren 06-16-2013 05:57 PM

I'd call the beats/sound synth-industrial

I absolutely agree with this. I am also ashamed that I put down the album after one listen. I can't stop listening to Blood On The Leaves, it's so haunting and intense. I will have this album on repeat for a least a week. I do admit it's an interesting new direction for him.

Cuthbert 06-16-2013 11:25 PM

The only track I like is Black Skinhead but a lot of the stuff he says just makes him sound like a cock.

You don't have to be a patronizing cock.

He's clearly more of a tosser on MBDTF. And its the music that matters in the end, not so much what he is saying.

I know what you're saying but the vocals are part of the music.

Relentless 06-17-2013 03:11 AM

I can see why people are mixed about the release. It's a different direction. but people saying production is lacking? Can't agree with that, production of the beats and mixing is brilliant. Especially considering the beats he had to mix. That's no walk in the park

True that, it's great, but every now and then, you gotta ad some flavor.
