There is no way that Rihanna and Alicia Keys are equally talented, success doesnt equal talent is the point that I am getting at. Rihanna doesnt write her songs, she doesnt have any input into production, she literally just sings pre written songs and dances on the video. She is lucky in that she has an above average voice and is attractive.

As for Kanye, this list is every song that Kanye has been credited with production on.

Kanye West production discography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He's done more in music than Rihanna can ever dream of doing.

Rihanna is not in the same league as either Alicia Keys or Kanye West, never has been and never will be.

Your opinion, we'll just have to agree to disagree for argument's sake!

You can't just agree to disagree with someone every time you're wrong.. That's just not how things work.

He should be able to argument a valid opinion. It's not like he said "I like rain" or "I prefer hot dogs to burgers". Opinions like that don't need arguments. He said that Rihanna did more in music than Kanye West (I'm not a fan of either of them) and when he was proven wrong he said that they will have to agree to disagree.

I can't speak for him but the whole agree to disagree is most likely referring to the fact that he believes that Rihanna is more talented than Kanye and Alicia Keys....I don't think it was referring to doing more in music

Scissorman 04-05-2011 06:23 AM

Well, he did mention that she musically did more than Kanye or Alicia. But even if he was referring to who is more talented, he is still wrong. I mean if I said that Ke$ha is more talented than Maria Callas or that Lindsay Lohan is more talented than Meryl Streep, would you say that I am entitled to an opinion or you'd try to prove me wrong? Because I think that I am not entitled to those opinions.

lol why are you not entitled to those opinions?

I'm not the type to try to prove anyone wrong for having unpopular opinions

Scissorman 04-05-2011 06:35 AM

One thing is having unpopular opinions but it's a completely different thing when you're just being a troll :D

Ben Butler 04-05-2011 07:31 AM

Davey Moore 04-05-2011 09:08 PM

I like her because her voice sounds like she might be spun out on opiates, it's like she's barely trying, and it has a weird tone. It gives what would be a normal pop song like Umbrella and gives it a strange dark undertone. Same thing with the Kanye song All of the Lights. Anyway, don't care much for most of her songs, I just like Umbrella.

drake knows her name

she doesnt know her own name

Em doesn't lie to her, she likes guys to lie to her in general

She also likes Rude Boys...

yes Chris Brown did a number on her.

She now likes rude boys, loves guys that lie to her and she also doesn't know her own name.

Marina brings up a fair point. Rihanna has had a hard time with scum like Chris Brown beating her up. Cut her some slack.

No one is criticising her for being beaten by Chris Brown, so what exactly are we cutting her slack for?

Sparky 05-01-2011 02:17 AM

YES

Scarlett O'Hara 05-01-2011 08:27 AM

I'm disappointed in her latest album. Basically her 2 singles were the only half decent tracks. Fail.

ilashes. 05-02-2011 05:01 PM

I'm confused with her recent song selections.

I thought she didn't like to get beat up and that's why Chris Brown no longer has a career.

and then she came out with the song s&m and very exuberantly exclaimed that perhaps abuse is something that she enjoys.

I feel like i'm getting mixed messages.

Sparky 05-02-2011 05:23 PM

Well she probably doesn't like getting seriously punched in the face, different then some kinky fetishes.

It's all just a good pr move anyway

Erm Domestic Abuse does NOT equal S&M

Ben Butler 05-03-2011 06:53 AM

I can’t remember word for word what was said, but essentially it came down to this: Rihanna was sending “mixed messages to young girls” because she has been the victim of domestic violence and is now in a video “promoting violent sex.” Now, the radio hosts admitted it was “not her fault” she was involved in the former, but because of those circumstances she should not be promoting S&M. Which is apparently equated to “violent sex.”

Well ****, I know there are more public misconceptions about S&M than can probably be counted on all my hands and feet, but jeez. First off, BDSM - which is what is depicted in the video - is not inherently violent; it’s generally about control, power play, and trust. While yes, sometimes it involves pain as a form of or mixed with pleasure, that is not always the case. Just because I tie my lover up, does not mean I am hurting them. (I only do that if they ask for it!)

In other words, you cannot equate BDSM with domestic violence, etc. They are NOT THE SAME. Rihanna having been a victim of domestic violence has nothing to do with her portrayal (I’d hardly call it “promotion”) of BDSM in her music video.

And honestly, after watching the video and reading the lyrics myself, I feel as though it was more empowering for Rihanna than anything. Yes, she is depicted as being tied up/submissive in some scenes, but the majority show her as the dominant with men and other women tied up/on a leash/being whipped, etc. And all the reporters are the ones with ball gags in their mouths ha! It also gave the impression of being sex/BDSM positive.

I mean, correct me if I’m wrong on that point. I just watched it quickly, didn’t really analyze it too intently. Anyone else have anything to add?

Alright, let me clear something up. I do not believe s&m and domestic abuse are on the same scale at all, that is not what I said. I said that I feel like I am getting mixed messages about the content and direction of her song selection recently and there must be some validity in saying so if radio stations are broadcasting the same types of opinions.

It is easy to differentiate between the two when you sit there and pick the music video, lyrics and message apart and analyze it that way but what you're forgetting is that Rihannas demographic audience is young women ages 13-16 and that is not how the majority of young people interpret music. Maybe there are a few who are able to do what you're able to do and pull it apart and examine it that way but I assure you that the general population does not do that. They hear a song, they pull a message and my point was merely that the message to the appropriate demographic and even to me (someone who is clearly ignorant to the detailed content of what the components of s&m are) are confusing and misleading. Although you may not believe it to be the truth or something of fact, I am sure that you can understand how or possibly why the portrayal of Rihannas darker direction would raise some eyebrows after the past events with Chris Brown.

That is all I was trying to say

NGPercussion 05-03-2011 01:30 PM

Personally, I can't stand whatever song she says that chains and whips excite her. I dislike it so much, I can't be bothered to look up the name.

Ben Butler 05-12-2011 02:35 PM

Her new song is just a ballad, far more toned down from S & M and she looks stunning in it. Can't think of the name.

qianqian 05-18-2011 06:40 AM

I am a big fan of her.She is still goodlooking with a big forehead and she has special voice which is not accepted with the mainstream aesthetic, but she still has several good singles~~like Umbrella,Unfaithful ~~~

S&M is my favourite song for the last couple of weeks.

Stacey. 05-25-2011 06:08 PM

"Umbrella" was a great song, I think it got overplayed though and became sort of boring.

Her new music's well good though, think I prefer her old really..but not much comparison, she's just a great artist.
