You see, I actually believe what I say about the bands I have mentioned but it is only because it gets people thinking and coming up with counter arguements and that is fun for everyone.
I am not saying I am right but I am saying I think I am.
It isn't US V UK but you have to understand that the US controls the music industry and what people hear and therfore like is determined by US record compaines. This is why they push the agenda for US bands more as they sell more and why when a movement is created or explodes they want to cash in and make it US to sell over in the US and then worldwide. Like Rap? They latch onto it and market it.
If you get one explosion and it sells the US record compainies seize every available act in that genre and market them till the nest thing comes along.
Why do you think US kids don't ever like music from say Australia? Because until some band there makes an explosion the record compainies in the US wont market their own versions of that band to profit.
That is why credit should be paid to a band or person who single handedly changes the music landscape and actually gets the US record execs to change course and go head on for that new theme. That takes a hell of a lot of inspiration and talent to change the record compaines direction.
KLike the Beatles suddenly changed the US record industry with their explosion and the record industry then got all the acts they could to copy or chane to be like them.
Same with the Who and then pistols. Remember until the pistols US record companies investing zero in punk bands and all their money went into prog rock.
It still would have had not one band changed that direction through sheer force of ideas and talent.
Then the US record companies go back to making money with safe acts like Elton John again.
The US controls what we hear and what we know about. Only a sheer act of immense talent and ideas ever changes their agenda (albeit for a short while)
I feel the US has an unfair control of what joe public hears and that is why I champion any act that changes that pattern.
This is ridiculous, how is the UK any different? Last time I checked hardly ANY major labels were investing in punk rock before it exploded. It's how things work with any movement. You assume it's only the US? You need to get a reality check or something.

So who signed the pistols and where?
Who then signed the clash? CBS
That is when punk came into peoples living rooms.
Where do CBS hail from?
Where do all the Major labels come from?
So who controls what we hear?

exactly and then the US big ones came in and took over and that is how grannies in Kansas became aware of a music called punk!!!!
They forced their way into the conscious minds of the world because the US record companies thought "we could make cash from this"
EXACTLY!!
virgin branson's label from the UK pushed a band and once they got enough publicity the US big wigs got in on the act and that is why we now have punk rock genre and why it still exists.
CBS then signed the Clash and all rolled from there.
Sorry this is the wrong place but it got going here.
See my point?
would the Ramones (whom I love) have persisted if that had not happened or would any of them?
That was an act of genius wasn't it my learned friends?
EMI signed them and then it all took off around the world. What would have become of it had it not been for the pistols? At least they split as punk and didn't then go into whatever was the next fashion Madonna style.
Jesus created world Christianity while religion always existed and the pistols cretaed punk while music always existed.
But Jesus did it through the Romans who had the money to build churches and the pistols did it through record compaines who had money to market their stuff.
I need a kip!!!

The only flaw in your argument is that The Ramones , Patti Smith & Television were all signed on majors before the Pistols.

Yeah you do have a point!
I tell you what. I'd settle for the Ramones honestly.
I saw then in leicester in the 90's and Joey said "good to be here in li ces ter and we all laughed typical rock n roll but I was so pissed I collapsed in a heap and missed most of it.
Such a shame they are dead now.
I love the Outsider and bonzo goes to Bitburg and Chinese rock and Rock n roll radio.
I will settle for the Ramones.
They appeared on top of the pops in 76 and noone knew what they were about as they were used to rod stewart.
I heard a rumour that Joey was in soho and he saw a young kid and he got the idea for a punk band and asked the kid his name and he said I'm Rotten so F**k off!
!!! ah ha ha.
I'll settle for the Ramones.
Dee Dee was born in germany!!!
He wrote their songs!!!
Oh ****, they aint having punk the germans.
I've started another row about the Who in rock section mate!
I like hearing the responses and what people think. The Ramones it is.
I'll find some evidence of a Ramones UK heritage. Maybe Joeys mom was from macclesfeild or something!

Why is it so hard for you to credit America to something?

it is not Croquill.
The US gave us country and western didn't it?
The US gave us New Kids on the Block didn't they?
Only kidding.
I am not finding it difficult to credit the US at all.
I am simply inflaming a debate which is what I like a debate. If I just state facts or put in a name noone cares and there is no point loggin on.
It just came into my head and then It went on and it is fun not serious.
I do think in general the US is bland in music. With a few exceptions. In the Uk there have been movements of youth like in Manchester, like ppunk, like mods and rockers.
The US seems to be like silly tattoo's and brilliant technical playing but no politics or anything new. Like that song now by nickleback it is so childish and stupid.
Maybe it's our rain and climate and the US optimism but Ozzy ozbourne mania???
So childish and silly grown men going on about snorting ants.
Making silly hand gestures. Too much rap music which is moronic and juvenile.
I wish the US had more Nivarna's. They don't like Oasis much or the Smiths to well and they probably never liked the Jam or Madness or the Roses all political and revolutionary and making a statement.
Yet they like silly rock about how much they drink and screw and wear makeup.
They love Kiss and bands like Bon Jovi.
I believe that they would like these bands if only they got airtime and exposure .
The US gave us dylan so that makes up for everyone else anyway!!!
Up to me is a great song.
The US music isn't very clever or sharp but rather like holiday 18/30 Ibiza pub crawl silly stuff. Headbanging stuff that means nothing.
With exceptions I agree.

Yeah but I mean more lately.
Those acts came from times when music meant something to people who were poor and needy and trampled upon by their own country like our punks were here in the UK.
But rich US likes silly childish stuff with no substance.
Oh and the UK invented the electric guitar!!
Am I twisting your melons?
