Taylor Swift

I would like to know what people think of Taylor Swift. She's incredibly talented in my opinion and although mainstream there is still a strong country background to her music. I think she is a good role model for young people today.

savannah 03-30-2009 07:44 AM

my friends roll their eyes at me for this,.....but personally, i love her,...

i think she's charming, i like that she writes her own stuff, and she just seems incredibly normal,....

i also like that my young cousins now want to pic up a guitar instead of a barbie doll

coryallen2 03-30-2009 07:45 AM

bang-ABLE

High Voltage 03-30-2009 09:10 AM

I love her too! She's very talented, sweet and she's gorgeous as a bonus.

NSW 03-30-2009 12:17 PM

Gotta give her props for writing her own stuff...I personally don't care for her music though. Granted, I haven't heard anything beyond what they play on the radio.

glutoro 04-01-2009 07:58 PM

Taylor Swift is very talented indeed, she write such good melodies. Country isn't my favorite type of music but her songs even though very young and childish have this beauty to them. I also like the fact that she writes her own songs and guitar work. It also doesn't hurt that I want to make her my husbands second wife.. ;) that's right I would totally do her too.

Flower Child 04-07-2009 09:21 AM

I wouldn't say she is terrible, overrated to the extreme though. She is definitely not as good as what everybody brags her up to be. Just because she is cute and she can play guitar, she is shoved in everybody's faces. and in turn everyone thinks they should love her because everybody else is listening to her because we have gotten so used to mediokre crap on the radio. I'm just upset that America has lowered its standards so much as to who is "good" in the music industry. I really cant believe some of the people getting grammys these days. You know Its gotten out of hand when Amy Winehouse, a complete no talent, wins a grammy.

In short, all of you people who like Taylor Swift will not like her in 5 years because you will not remember her because there will be some new little ding dong blonde singer on the radio.

10-4

NSW 04-07-2009 12:41 PM

Amy Winehouse a complete no talent??? Taylor Swift a "little ding dong blonde singer"??

Can't say I agree with you on either of those points. Both of these singers might be overrated as you say, but to claim they are both talentless is just wrong.

Antonio 04-07-2009 01:11 PM

she has a good singing voice imo. her songs aren't that bad

CJC 04-10-2009 12:57 AM

Personally, I love her. I'm a huge fan. I think she has a great singing voice and has a long career ahead of her.

Dr_Rez 04-10-2009 02:00 AM

Tkes more than a good voice to be a musician. If not for her looks she would be on the street singing for change. No disrespect to her but there plenty of people with great voices out there, but are not signed my major labels to sings superpop on mtv.

But RezZ that's life though innit. I would not know a Taylor Swift song if I fell over it but good luck to her.

Exactly. Dont blame the artists, blame the major labels and corporations like Nick and such that make the mainstream such garbage. I say that ppartially for other and partially because its absurd that I should have to search the internet and last fm for decent music. I mean look at the 50's, 60's, 70's, and somewhat 80's/90's...You could turn on top 40 and get some good stuff. Now its Taylor Swift and Solja Boi.

Imo, now that we are in the age of capitalism where corporations rule, it is a fact of life that music shall be ****ty (as well as mainstream games/movies/tc) because of the get rich quick corporation plan.

thank you
I tried to say exactly this in a post on the first page but you said it better than me.

4ZZZ 04-10-2009 08:56 AM

Actually Rezz I think you lost my point. I don't care that there are corporate FM friendly artists like Taylor Swift. It has always been like that. She is no different than Elton John to me.

I am just surprised that so many of you think that there is some proliferation of commercial artists backed by big corporations and that it is new, or at least more prevalent, than it was in the past. IMO the big corporations have never had it so bad thanks to www and blogs. I am not crying a tear for them by the way. Fuk em. They were ripping of the artist and the punter years back. I learnt that years back when involved in the production of 60,000 CD's (yes 60 thousand CD's) for a company I worked for.

As I said Taylor Swift I know nothing about but she apparently can sing, write as tune and play an instrument and is attractive. So some corporation is now backing her and the public at large are keen. So what! If I hear her and like her I will..........well like her. Being backed by a corporation and your and my mum liking her is kinda nothing to do with it in the end.

khfreek 04-10-2009 10:32 AM

Shouldn't this be in the pop section? ;)

gunnels 04-10-2009 02:15 PM

I met her once.
Total bitch.

carla 04-15-2009 10:43 PM

I love taylor swift and also Jesse McCartney!!!! I really hope that they will have a back 2 back concert together.
Her songs are so nice, and her voice too. She really rocks, especially when she play's her guitar. :D

Antonio 04-15-2009 11:04 PM

she's not bad

Learn to use the search button, I liturally made a thread about her a matter of weeks ago. :usehead:

She's technically a country singer which has a pop element to it. So either or.

shes a very good young writer, has churned out SEVERAL hit songs already...ive heard she isnt so great vocally live, but you gotta give it to her, she's a hit songwriter....

i also think she is cute, has a good image, and that helps. but i also think her look is pretty different than the usual gorgeous fake look, which is good i guess. :)

I personally question how much she actually wrote in terms of the overall production and finished product that ends up on your radio. I think this woman (CMT : News : "Tim McGraw" Composer Liz Rose Is SESAC's Songwriter of the Year) probably helped just a bit considering she co-wrote every song on her debut.

Edit - Actually I was wrong, it wasn't every one.

musicdanceluv4 05-11-2009 08:50 PM

I am such a huge fan! I love how she totally rocks it in concert, complete with headbanging...lol I'm happy You Belong With Me is the new single!

TumorAttitude 11-29-2009 10:26 AM

Heard her new song on TV this morning. Kinda disturbed, wrote this.

You take a deep breath and you walk through the doors
It's the morning of your very first day
And you say hi to your friends you ain't seen in a while
Try and stay out of everybody's way

Okay, cool. I don't really care for the first day either. Hella weird, all the assemblies and ****....

It's your freshman year and you're gonna be here
For the next four years in this town
Hoping one of those senior boys will wink at you and say
"You know, I haven't seen you around before"

Aw, thats cute. I'm stuck in a small town too. Its kinda bull, man. I sympathize.

'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
And when you're fifteen feeling like there's nothing to figure out
Well, count to ten, take it in
This is life before you know who you're gonna be
Fifteen

You only start a sentence with "'Cause" if someone asked you a question, Taylor. I am 15 and I know this. But you're probably right, most teenagers do not pocess a healthy amount of skepticism. You should question things and think them over. Authority doesn't always have your best interests at heart, kids.

You sit in class next to a redhead named Abigail
And soon enough you're best friends
Laughing at the other girls who think they're so cool
We'll be outta here as soon as we can

Wow, thats kind of judgemental. Maybe those girls are insecure and have home problems, so they channel it through social hierchies. But its a small town and there probably isn't much to do but secretly mock the cheerleaders with your ginger wingman. Again, this place sucks. I'm dying to leave as well, Taytay.

And then you're on your very first date and he's got a car
And you're feeling like flying
And you're momma's waiting up and you're thinking he's the one
And you're dancing 'round your room when the night ends
When the night ends

Taylor, you're behind. This was when I was 13. Now I try to have legit relationships with people I actually have stuff in common with, although I don't really expect them to-OHMAGAW, HE HAS A CAR? MARRY HIM, OHMAGAW!

'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
When you're fifteen and your first kiss
Makes your head spin 'round
But in your life you'll do things greater than
Dating the boy on the football team
But I didn't know it at fifteen

Um.....I do. I know it at fifteen.

When all you wanted was to be wanted
Wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now

Like, wanted how? Abigail wants you and cares about you and stuff. Your mom wants you and waited up for you after your date. Like, attracted to, wanted? Like waaaaaaaant to **** you? OH. Um.....I sort of just sprouted boobs so you're a bit ahead of me there.

Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday
But I realized some bigger dreams of mine
And Abigail gave everything she had to a boy
Who changed his mind
and we both cried

WAIT. WTF? I'm assuming you mean Abigail's virginity. So Abby ****ed some dude and then he dumped her. Thats not what bothers me, thats a common occurance. But its ALL SHE HAD? Abigail's worth lies in her hymen? Abigail has nothing else to offer the world but a tight lay? And that boy, did he give Abigail EVERYTHING HE HAD? Is his virginity all he had to offer the world, or is he an individual, with hopes and dreams and aspirations beyond condoms from the local Rite Aid and ten minutes in a sweaty backseat? Probably, but I guess Abigail isn't. I guess Abigail is just an empty shell now. Wow, Taylor! I guess now all you can do is comfort her and cry with her and continue not putting out, because you still have SOMETHING.

'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
And when you're fifteen, don't forget to look before you fall
I've found time can heal most anything
And you just might find who you're supposed to be
I didn't know who I was supposed to be at fifteen

Oh, I get it now. Wow, Abigail sure knows how to pick them. I'm sure she regrets her decision, her tale is a cautionary one. But what about Lauren, who sits in front of you in sixth period English? I hear she hooked up with Craig over the weekend. Is she a failure too? What if she was just really horny? What if she doesn't expect emotional feedback from him, what if shes "pulling a Summer"? Does she still have anything, or is she an empty shell like your ginger bud? Are any woman who were too retarded to wait until they were married before breaking the protective seal on their pussies empty shells? Wow, what a wonderful message to send to young, impressionable teenage girls. I just feel so good about myself now! I'm still worth something! I'm still pure! Oh, happy ****ing day! Wow, maybe if I practice SUPER HARD and I promise not to have sex with ANYBODY EVER, I can be awesome and famous JUST LIKE YOU, TAYLOR SWIFT!

Your very first day
Take a deep breath girl
Take a deep breath as you walk through the doors

And remember to breath! Thanks, Taylor, you're the best rolemodel ever!

daydreamdani 11-29-2009 06:30 PM

Well do you hate her? It's the same way with my friends. My brother learned almost every song she has on bass because he loves her so much.

That was certainly one of the best things I've read all day TumorAttitude. Thank you so much.
Hillarious.

Somewhat, I don't personally hate her. But I'm not much of a fan of her music. It's not my style. At all. I find it overall pretty cheesy if I'm going to be completely honest. Love Story was awful, sooo cheesy. I mean if she dropped the cheese then maybe I'd like her.

OceanAndSilence 12-03-2009 08:59 AM

"her" songs are just cheesy what-you-want-to-hear, and is a partial element to why i hardly bother with radio stations any more.

savannah 12-03-2009 10:23 AM

i'm not even gonna try and fight this one,...

i have a whole taylor swift mix on my ipod,...and i like to listen to it when i get ready in the mornings

sure it lacks depth,....but,....

there is something to be said for sittin on the bathroom counter ina towel puttin on your make up listenin to uber girly music,.....it kinda makes me really happy,....
