Fall Out Boy has

My girlfriend tells me that Fall Out Boy just announced on Tv that they don't make their music for other people to like, they just make what they like. Truth? What's everyone's opinion?

This reminds me, I was checking the amount of seeders on torrents to see whose CD's had the most;
The Killers - Day And Age: About 14000
Britney Spears - Circus: About 8000
Fall Out Boy - Folie A Deux: About 5000
Lil Wayne - The Weezy Effect 2: About 2500
The Beatles/Led Zeppelin top torrents: About 2000
About 30 or 40 artists I found on MusicBanter: Ranging from 100 to 1000
Some artists I couldn't even find, like Tarantula Hawk or Book Of Knots. Carina Round had like 3 seeders or something. =/

Is anyone else disappointed by this?
Why is it the same 30 bands that are played on the radio, the same songs, every day, even if their not that good, are the ones who get like 13000 people wanting that artist when I have a list of like 300 artists sitting in front of me, all of which that Ive gotten are much more of an musical experience, and people don't even bother to find them?

Freebase Dali 04-12-2009 01:03 PM

I wouldn't have thought Fall Out Boy would have deserved a thread about them.

?

The Unfan 04-12-2009 01:06 PM

I don't really care one way or another. All styles of music are just as prefabricated as the next. This wouldn't be any more or less believable if it came from Seth Putnam.

Schizotypic 04-12-2009 01:15 PM

Sorry, I posted before I want to and had to add the second part in. Yeah, I don't really care because of Fall Out Boy, but more because of where the world's head is at. I feel like the radio stations play the same songs over and over to trick people into thinking there's only 30 songs in the world per month, because their obviously not looking elsewhere.

Inuzuka Skysword 04-12-2009 01:34 PM

I don't Fall Out Boy intentionally makes bad music that people like. I just think that the people in Fall Out Boy are boring and therefore make boring music. It is kind of like how all pop lyrics are the same these days. It isn't just because of money. It is also because most people these days are boring.

oh yeah it's the radio stations diabolical plan to only play 30 songs so that they can brainwash everyone into buying the crappy pop they are broadcasting through repetition.

You're going to need this thread moved, one because it's not lounge material and two because fall out boy suck balls.

Thrice 04-12-2009 01:54 PM

I think this should be in a different section of MB. I stay away from threads containing Fall Out Boy, thats why I hide in the community center most of the time.

Great reply.

jackhammer 04-12-2009 02:17 PM

Moved. Anything music specific should rarely be posted in the lounge and if you are unsure what genre for bands just put it in general. Unfortunately we don't have a 'turgid crap' section for this sort of music.

Ballyhoo, we have an emo section don't we? :D

EDIT: Please not anymore of this fake emo vs real emo bullcrap. One because it all sucks, and two if it's kinda emo, it's f*cking emo.

Piss Me Off 04-12-2009 02:33 PM

I think it's an incredibly Fall Out Boy kind of thing to say, if anything.

savannah 04-12-2009 02:48 PM

this aint a scene, its a gawdam arms race

djchameleon 04-12-2009 02:49 PM

never understood that song but w/e it was catchy and that's all they needed for it to be a hot single

I don't think they are as terrible as people make them out to be.
There is much worse out there.

I don't think you can name 5 bands that sold half records as they have in the last 2-3 years that are worse...maybe 30 Seconds to Mars, but I don't know if anw buys their crap...maybe in the u.s. they do, and of course the horrible Linkin Park

Poplarity has nothing to do with quality.

Aiden
Nickelback
Soulja Boy
Insane Clown Posse
50 Cent

I wouldn't excatly call ICP popular... they seem to appeal mostly to a small number of douchebags

sweet_nothing 04-12-2009 05:54 PM

In regards to ICP
They arent mainstream popular, theyre more big with the losers at school who dont fit in.

FaSho 04-12-2009 05:57 PM

:shycouch: I love me some Fall Out Boy, listen to their first album, Fall Out Boy's evening Out With Your Girlfriend then tell me they suck!

sweet_nothing 04-12-2009 06:03 PM

They suck

Worse production quality, same music.

LoathsomePete 04-12-2009 08:53 PM

They've found a music style that is popular with prepubescent girls who like to spend daddy's money. If you were to look at it as a business move they did the smart thing by playing something that requires little though or talent, that appeals to the masses, and capitalizes on their "good looks".

dac 04-12-2009 09:14 PM

Why do people make threads like this? No one of intelligence is pushing Fall Out Boy as important or good. They found a marketable niche and are pushing that. Just get over it, and if you don't like it, then just turn it off.

I just wanted MusicBanters opinion on it, instead of assuming that everyone who would respond has no respect for Fall Out Boy. Myself, I have not listened to much of their stuff and although I feel as though I hate them, I cannot really judge. I didn't know, maybe they were better then I thought. It was worth the post.

Anteater 04-13-2009 01:34 PM

The general rule for any business is that to appeal to the most people possible, the product needs to be general enough so that it doesn't attract just one or two nices and instead grabs the folks who don't really give a damn where their money goes anyway and who think of music in the same way they think of their doormat.

As Hitler once said, "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think." :usehead:

Acoustic EP is where it's at.

FaSho 04-13-2009 09:10 PM

Or the split with Project Rocket.

Gareth Brown 04-14-2009 07:42 PM

Personally i quite like Fall Out Boy, i think they make fun, catchy pop music, i probs would never be inspired enough to get an album or anything but i like what i have heard. I'm not sure why anyone who really has a big interest in music could get really worked up a band like that or go as far to say that you 'hate' them as they are no one gives them any credibilty or says they're important, they're just a fairly disposable pop band. I get more worked up over bands that are fawned over in circles of music enthusiasts tha are complete crap( i'm looking at you Sonic Youth) what 14 year old girls listen to and enjoy is none of my concern.

I'm going to disregard the Sonic Youth comment that preceded this and say AMEN!

QFT
This is the best post you've ever made.

I like you.

This, 100%

TheCunningStunt 06-14-2009 05:48 AM

When I read the title of this thread

I expected to open it and for it to read

"Has no talent."

Like someone else said, they don't deserve a thread about them.

FaSho 06-14-2009 08:02 AM

Isn't that subjective? I mean I don't think Disturbed deserve a thread about them, but they do and it's full of positive posts. I'm sure there are other people who like Fall Out Boy on MB, therefore they would probably enjoy talking about them in a Fall Out Boy thread if it wasn't as hostile as this.

You hit the nail on the head man. I'm still not a fan of them but this is very true.

I can believe that.

They're trying to be awful, of course, it all makes sense now.
