Disney have marketed her incredibly well to tweens and younger... but I guess I can't complain, my daughter could be watching far less wholesome crap on TV... hopefully her taste in music just evovles...lol....

Does it really matter how "wholesome" the stuff she is watching is? In my opinion I would rather I have my make-believe child watching well-done TV shows and listening to good music, even if it is considered inappropriate, than watching and listening to that type of stuff seriously.

I dunno, I guess I don't need my seven year old watching gratuitous sex... lol...

I am not big on censoring stuff... the real world is full of things they're going to encounter... I don't edit their choices much, but I do screen their internet communication... mainly because there are some sick assed nasty types out there...

My step son loves metal... I have even fed this love...lol...

I think watching Miley Cyrus' shows are better than having your children watch MTV.

Miley Cyrus really hasn't done anything worth hating her for, from what I've heard and seen. She's taken some pictures, but I think there are a lot of things she could have done that are worse than that.

scottsy 09-28-2009 09:02 PM

I wouldn't recommend MTV to my kids on the basis that the shows are crap in the first place... before we even begin with morality...lol...

I tend to agree though... Miley is innocent enough not to worry my father of a seven year old brain... I don't censor my kids lives from them, but I don't exactly want them seeking out all the worst influences...

That's really good that you're not big on censorship, though. You seem like the parent I would want to be.

I kinda believe that there are so many billions of images reaching our kids nowadays, you're a fool to think you can censor it... you're best bet is to teach them to be media literate, to have them develop skills in determining what images in the media are good and what ones aren't and basically teach them to be discerning uses of our mass e

Those are some really good points. I definitely agree that you shouldn't try and censor every thing your child might see, but you should teach them about those things so that if they come across something "inappropriate" they will at least understand it.

That's very true. ^_^

Good parenting. [=
