Speaking of censoring, I don't know if anyone has seen Pitbull's video for Hotel Room Service but MuchMusic (for those living in Canada) muted out the part where he says 'egg whites', which is obviously a clear ref to his shooting a load, but still, egg whites? Censored? GTFO. This is a song about meeting chicks at a hotel and getting it on. He meets up and makes out with a bunch of girls in the video but egg whites was so horrible that they had to mute it.

Censorship is such a strange place to go, since so many people have such different sensitivities to different phenomena... some people can tolerate absolutely everything while others scoff at the mere hint of a taboo being breached... I always say, if you don't like it, just turn it off or do something else, rather than spoiling for someone who does like it...

I absolutely agree with that.

I used to read the Points of View messageboard while i was at work and that used to piss me off to no end. For those who don't know what that is, Points of View is a BBC show that has been going for God knows how long where they read and address letters of complaint handed to the BBC. So, before someone points this out I knew fine well what i was getting myself into by going to this messageboard but the BBC website was the only one that you could use at work.

I hate complainers in general. Whether people are complaining about the content of a certain programme, the time slot it is in, or sports on TV which seems to be a big one. So many people complain about Eastenders being moved back 2 hours because the BBC have football or something on. A lot of people seem to think that television networks should meet their own personal schedule. God forbid these people should have to record Eastenders or watch it at 9:30 instead of 7:30. God forbid these people should switch off and watch something else if what they are watching doesnt meet their own personal taste. God forbid these people should develop an open mind and realise that no one is forcing them to watch a certain channel at a certain time if they find the content offensive and that it takes all of 2 seconds to decide to watch something else.

I dont get offended easily which might have something to do with i suppose but i simply don't understand how people find the motivation to actually write a formal letter of complaint about this kind of shit.

However saying this i must also say that i think if i were a parent i would certainly control what they were watching and what they werent. I hope i wouldnt be too strict a parent in that sense though. I bought my niece Family Guy DVD's for her 14th birthday for example. Now, i knew that by this point she was already watching it at home to be fair but i think that by 14 it really doesnt matter what certificate these DVD's were carrying but that its more up to the parent (and she was fine with it, so i bought them) to make the correct decisions for their own children. I wont be buying her any South Park or anything but shes mature enough to watch things that shes officially too young to watch.

I think it would be pretty hypocritical for someone like me to attempt to pass the blame onto the networks for what MY kids were watching, when really if i care so much i should be accepting that responsibility myself.

Miley Cyrus may make me want to scream whenever i have to watch her but her show (and i guess her music) seem to be pretty safe, gives the parent a break from potentially worrying about what their kids are watching if thats what they are into and doesnt seem completely patronising as a lot of 'safe' TV can be, even for kids.

I like Miley, her innocence and that breath of fresh air she brings.
